Applications are invited for admission to the following PG programmes introduced from the academic year 2006-2007:
Two year MTech in Earth system science & technology
Two year MTech in Media and sound engineering
One year PG Diploma in Rural development
One year PG Diploma in Telecommunication network planning and management
Candidates for programmes 1, 2 & 3 should be GATE qualified. Candidates admitted to the MTech programmes will receive assistantship of Rs.5000 p.m. Programme 4 is self-financed requiring a fee of Rs.75, 000 per semester. Filled in application form with a DD for application fee must reach; Chairman, GATE, IIT Kharagpur, 721302, W.B., not later than 24 June 2006. Short listed candidates will have to appear for written test and interview on 6 July 2006. Counseling for admission will be held on 7 July 2006, for the candidates selected.

A senior officer at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kharagpur has accused the institute of suspending him for using the Right to Information Act to point out alleged irregularities in the appointment of top administrators.
Kalo Boran Mahapatra has complained to the Central Information Commission (CIC) that IIT Kharagpur suspended him last July after he asked for documents that he claims would have revealed that the selected candidates were not qualified for the posts.
IIT officials, however, said Mahapatra was suspended because of a complaint they had received from income-tax authorities that he had drawn an advance to build a
President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will Thursday lay the foundation stone for a research centre at the premier Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur and later visit a school for spastics here.
Kalam, who arrived here late Wednesday night, will inaugurate the B.C. Roy Multi-Speciality Research Centre at IIT-Kharagpur, about 125 km west of Kolkata, and also deliver a lecture there.

The student of IIT, Kharagpur, who had accused his teacher of demanding a bribe to change his assessment, reportedly confessed before the inquiry committee, set up to probe the charge, that he had actually wanted to pay the teacher for his grade change.
The Statesman had reported yesterday that Subhas Kumar, an undergraduate student in the naval architecture department, was among the 14 first-year students of IIT, Kharagpur, to have been retained in the institute following a relaxation of promotion rules.
