Graduate (10+2+3 system) with Mathematics / Statistics / Business Mathematics / Computer Science either at graduation or Intermediate / Class 12 level
a) Candidates must have 60% marks in Class 10 and Class 12 (50% for SC/ST). Marks in Class 10 to be considered as sum of all subjects in which candidate has appeared, and in Class 12 for best 5 subjects. For M.Sc. Geoinformatics, marks in Class 12 to be considered for best 5 subjects including Physics / Mathematics
b) 60% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates) in graduation / the appropriate qualifying examination in the disciplines / branches mentioned below for the respective courses.
Notes:
1) Candidates appearing for final examinations in 2007 can also apply, and if selected can join the programme provisionally
2) Selected candidates will be required to produce proof of passing their qualifying examinations with requisite minimum marks by 30.09.2007. The deadline for submission of mark-sheet / certificate is 30th September 2007, failing which the provisional admission will be cancelled.
Selection Procedures: Admission to the MSc programmes will be on the basis of previous academic record, an online Entrance Test to be conducted on the dates mentioned (see below) at Mesra, and Institute Extension Centres at Allahabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Noida and Patna, followed by personal interviews for shortlisted candidates. GATE will not be a pre-requisite for these programmes. However, there will be no scholarships for students of these programmes. The pattern of the online Entrance Test is described
How To Apply:
1. Candidates should obtain Intitute Postgraduate Information Brochure and Application Form to apply
2. The Application Form and Postgraduate Information Brochure giving details of the eligibility criteria, number of seats, fee structure, reservations and containing the prescribed application form will be available across the counter as per dates specified below, from all Institute Centres on all working days during working hours, on payment by crossed Bank Draft of Rs. 1,000/- drawn in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi. Please note (a) this amount includes the processing fee (b) payment will only be accepted by crossed bank draft as above.
3. To receive the Postgraduate Information Brochure and form by post, send a crossed bank draft for Rs. 1,100/- in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi, along with two self-addressed slips of paper (10 cm x 10 cm) with your name and address clearly written in block capitals and telephone number, and a letter mentioning the course applied for to any of Institute Centres, to reach Institute positively by the last date specified below. Write PG 2007 on the envelope.
4. Candidates in their own interest should send their requests for Brochure by appropriate means well in advance of the last dates mentioned.
5. The Brochures can be obtained in person / by post from various Centres as mentioned above.
6. You may use the Application Form provided with this Brochure to apply for admission to only one of the postgraduate programmes described in Brochure. However, in the case of multi-specialization programmes, you may use the same form to apply for any or all of the specializations, mentioning the order of choice of specializations. a) M.Sc. in any discipline with 55% marks, having Physics and Mathematics at the graduate level (50% for SC/ST candidates) or B.E. / B.Tech in any branch having 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates). Both GATE qualified and Non-GATE qualified candidates may apply.
b) Candidates must have 60% marks in Class 10 and Class 12 (50% for SC/ST). Marks in Class 10 to be considered as sum of all subjects in which candidate has appeared, and in Class 12 for best 5 subjects.
c) 60% in graduation (50% for SC/ST) for candidates of M.Sc. Marks in graduation to be considered for all subjects in which candidate has appeared including subsidiary subjects.
Selection Procedures: Admission to MTech will be on the basis of scores obtained in GATE 2006/GATE 2007, previous academic record and/or written test (wherever applicable) and personal interviews.
The interview schedules and details of tests (wherever applicable) for the above programmes will be announced only on Institute website and Notice Boards of the Institute and Institute Extension Centres. Candidates should therefore occasionally visit Institute website http://www.bitmesra.ac.in for any updates or any other matter related to the admission procedures. No individual intimation will be sent to candidates.
Non-GATE candidates for MTech: M. Tech programmes where GATE is mentioned as part of the eligibility criteria. However, their applications can be considered only after applicants who have qualified in GATE- 2006/GATE-2007 have been considered and interviewed. Further, there will be no scholarships for these candidates.
