Sant Longowal Institute set up Engineering and Technology (SLIET) is a National level institute set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, government of India which offers unique modular pattern of education in various branches of Engineering and Technology at certificate, Diploma, Degree programme. www.sliet.org. According to the recent Memo dated 4-1-2006 of Punjab Govt, Certificate programme of SLIET is equivalent to 10+2 and student from Certificate programme of SLIET is equivalent to 10+2 and students from Certificate are eligible for admission in B.E / B.Tech. Programme is accredited by NBA (AICTE, New Delhi). Application on prescribed form are invited for admission to various programmes through a National Level Test, to be conducted at all major cities of Punjab and Other States and state Capitals on June 10-11,2006.

Eligibility Criteria Certificate Programmes:
10th pass (with pass in Science, Mathematics and English) from a state Secondary Education Board / CBSE / ISCE or equivalent.

Diploma Programme:
10+2 pass with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics from a recognized Board/University or equivalent or a Certificate holders of SLIET.

M.Tech Programme:
Bachelor Degree in Engineering/ Technology in the concerned/allied branch or equivalent.

Ph.D Programmes:
Masters Degree in Science / engineering/ Technology

Note:
Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination can also apart SLIET, Longowal.

Ph.D Programmes:
No entrance test is conducted for the admission in Ph.D in different branches of Science and Engineering. Students interested can directly contact to head of the concerned department.

Statutory Reservations (in all above programmes)
!5% for Schedule Castes, 7.5% for Schedule Tribes and 3% for Physically Handicapped.

Foreign Nationals
15% in all Diploma and Degree Programmes (over and above the sanctioned seats).

NRI/NRI Sponsored
10% in Diploma and Degree Programmes (over and above the sanctioned seats)

The Brochure containing information about the institute, syllabi for Entrance Test for different programmes and application form for Entrance Test is available from February 10, 2006 at SLIET, Longowal (Distt. Sangrur) 148 106, Punjab, on payment of Rs.325 at the institutes Counter or through Post by sending a Bank Draft of Rs.350 in favour of Director, SLIET, payable at Longowal/Sangrur. The complete application form along with examination fee (in the form of DD or cash receipt) of Rs.500 (Rs. 250 for SC/ST) should be sent to the Chairman, SET-2006, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal 148 106, Distt. Sangrur (Punjab) on or before May 2, 2006.

Note:
For vertical Promation from lower module to higher module the SLIET students of certificate and Diploma Programmes shall have to appear in the Entrance Test, SET-IV and SET-V, respectively to be conducted on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at SLIET, Longowal only.

The Master of Computer Applications (MCA) course is a much sought-after course nowadays. The MCA course of the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) is a prestigious one. The common entrance examination for MCA course, NIMCET 2007, conducted by the nine NIT`s will be held on May 20. This year NIT, Durgapur, is conducting the examination.

The nine NIT`s conducting the three-year course are Calicut, Tiruchirappalli, Allahabad, Bhopal, Durgapur, Raipur, Surathkal, Warangal and Jamshedpur.

Candidates with 60 per cent marks (6,5/10 CGPA) in bachelors degree of full-time three-year duration from a recognized university with mathematics / statistics / business mathematics as one of the subjects in any one semester / year, both at the graduation and 10+2 levels are eligible. For SC/ST candidates, the percentage of marks required is only 55 per cent (6.0/10 CGPA).

Those candidates appearing for final-year degree examination can also apply.

However, they will have to furnish proof of having passed the qualifying examination with 60 per cent marks at the time of counseling / admission. All 20 NITs in the country and Kolkata will be test centres. NIT, Calicut (NIT-C) is the test centre in Kerala.

There are about 480 seats for the course spread across nine NITs.

The sets are likely to go up to 600 seats in order to cater to the OBC reservation stipulated by the Centre. Also, all the seats are likely to be made all-India ones. A final decision on this would be known later.

Completed applications should be sent on or before March 23 along with the application fee of Rs.700 (Rs.350 for SC/ST) in the form of a crossed demand draft drawn on State Bank of India, RE College Branch or any nationalized banks in favour of Convenor NIMCET 07 payable at Durgapur.

Applications in the prescribed format, only from Indian Nationals are invited for NIMCET 07, a common entrance test for admission to MCA programme of 2007 08 offered by 9 NITs located at Allahabad, Bhopal, Calicut, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Raipur, Surathkal, Tiruchirapalli, Warangal.

Eligibility Candidates with an aggregate of 60% marks [6.5/10 CGPA] in Bachelors Degree of full time 3 Years duration from a recognized University with mathematics / statistics / maths as one of the subjects in one semester / year both in graduation and at 10+2 level are eligible. For SC/ST candidates the percentage of marks is 55% (6.0/10). Those candidates who are appearing for the qualifying examinations in 2007 are also eligible to appear for the test. However, they will have to furnish the proof of eligibility at the time of counseling / admission.

Mode of Selection / Admission Admission to the MCA Programme at the above mentioned NITs is based on the rank obtained by the candidates in the NIMCET 07
