Vacare, Wait a While Among Early Noms for All Along BC

A pair of grade I winners — undefeated Vacare and Wait A While — are among 55 early nominations for the the $200,000 All Along Breeders Cup (gr. IIIT) at Colonial Downs June 16.

Last fall, Vacare won the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (gr. IT) at Keeneland for trainer Christophe Clement, and the Todd Pletcher-conditioned Wait A While won the Yellow Ribbon Stakes (gr. IT).

The last two winners of the Virginia Oaks, My Typhoon and Aunt Henny, are also nominees. My Typhoon recently won the Jenny Wiley (gr. IIT) over Keenelands Polytrack in April.

DC IIT Bombay Design Degree Show 2007

Design Degree Show (DDS) is the annual event, showcasing the design efforts at the Industrial Design Centre (IDC) in IIT Bombay.

DDS is aimed at creating design awareness in society and simultaneously offers a platform for people to meet and interact, as a facilitator for new ideas to emerge and fruitful collaborations to materialize.

This year the DDS exhibition, themed Poorna, is being held at Nehru Centre, Mumbai from 25-27th May 2007 and further at IDC, IIT Bombay from 29-31st May 2007.

IIT-Delhi to conduct security audit of railway station

Indian Railways has asked the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-Delhi) to carry out a security audit of the Old Delhi Railway Station.

Minister of State for Railways R. Velu informed parliament Thursday that the Railways have a proposal to revamp the security arrangement at the railway stations in Northern Railway.

IIT-Delhi has been assigned the task of carrying out a security audit of Delhi Main Junction Railways Station (old Delhi station) with a view to prepare a composite security plan, Velu said

Iit To Carry Security Audit To Delhi Railway Station

The Railways have a proposal to revamp the security arrangement at the railway stations in Northern Railway. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi has been assigned the task of carrying out a security audit of Delhi Main Junction Railways Station with a view to prepare a composite security plan.

The above mentioned project is a sort of pilot project. For the first time such a project has been assigned to IIT, Delhi by the Indian Railways. The terms and conditions specified by the Indian Institute of Technology for taking up this project have been accepted by the Railways and a Liaison Officer has been nominated from the Railways for day to day co-ordination. Further action will be taken by the Railways on receipt of the report.

This information was given by Shri R. Velu, Minister of State for Railways in a written reply to a question in Lok Sbha today.

IIT-K launches helpline for freshers

In a bid to save new entrants from ragging, the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has launched a students helpline. Assistant registrar Satyamurthi told agencies that the initiative would arrest the ragging of new comers by their seniors to a large extent. The helpline team constitutes 11 senior professors of the institute, he said.

Their mobile helpline numbers would be made available to all the new students at the time of admission, he said. The students can lodge a ragging complaint over the mobile phone and all the team members will immediately rush to the spot, he said.

According to Satyamurthi, the incidents of ragging normally take place at the students hostels during the night. The hostel wardens will also stay on high alert and would conduct raids, he said, adding stern action would be taken against any senior student found ragging juniors.

Kalam to inaugurate IIT research centre in Bengal

President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will Thursday lay the foundation stone for a research centre at the premier Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur and later visit a school for spastics here.

Kalam, who arrived here late Wednesday night, will inaugurate the B.C. Roy Multi-Speciality Research Centre at IIT-Kharagpur, about 125 km west of Kolkata, and also deliver a lecture there.

On his return to Kolkata later, he would interact with students at the National Council of Eduction in Jadavpur.

Kalam to teach Nano Technology to West Bengal students

President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will reach Kolkata today where he will take two sessions of classes on Nano Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Kharagpur.

Besides, taking classes of B. Tech., Post Graduate and Phd. at the IIT, Kalam will also lay the foundation stone of the Dr. B.C. Roy Multi-Specialty Research Centre here.

During his visit, Kalam will also interact with teachers and students at the National Council of Education function at Jadavpur University. Later, he will visit the Manovikas Kendra to interact with special children.
