Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. (Engineering) M.Tech / M.E./ M.SC. (Engineering) degree in respective or allied area. The candidates with Bachelors degree in Engineering / Technology or Masters Degree in Sciences in an allied area with exceptional academic record and possessing a valid GATE score may also apply. B.Tech may be apply with out GATE score (Such candidate will, however, be not entitled for Institute Assistantship if CGPA is below 8.0). For M.Tech in Biological Sciences And Bio-Engineering, candidates with MBBS or B.Pharma Degree are also considered.

General Information:

Financial aid (Assistantship / Scholarship) is provided for M.Tech., Ph.D. and M.Sc. Ph.D. (Dual Degree) Programmes.
50 percent tuition fee walver for M.Sc. (2 Yrs) M.SC. Ph.D. M.Sc. students after first Semester
Sponsored and part-time candidates are also considered for M.Tech. M.Des and Ph.D. Programmes. Sponsored candidates do not require GATE qualification. Several attractive Fellowships from Industries / DAE are also available. Guidance for sponsored and part-time candidates is available in the Information Brochure.

Reservation: The reservation for the year 2007 2008 (Session) will be 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and 11.8% for OBC subject to the approval of competent authority. For persons with disability (PD) 3% reservation shall apply as per Government of India rules.

Based on the assessed need for adequately trained marine engineers to supplement global merchant fleet operation as per the implementation of International Maritime Organization (IMO) through 7.04 model course under STCW95 (Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping) the Director General of Shipping (DGS), Ministry of Shipping Road Transport & Highways, Government of India has precisely and clearly formed Alternate Training Scheme (ATS). This three years course is absolutely residential including 9 months of duly documented training on board ship as Engineer Cadet as per STCW95 Code A-III / 1 IMO Model Course 7.04 Phase II.

With approval from the DGS, Chennai School of Ship Management (CSSM) has been conduction ATS ever since the introduction of this course on marine engineering. As part of the south zone cadets selection process, applications are invited from male candidates (Indian nationals only) for admission into the above course.
