Cochin University of Science and Technology Admissions 2007
Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to the following academic programmes for the year 2007-2008. Academic admissions are based on Common Admission Test (CAT)/Departmental Admission Test (DAT)/Test for Lateral Entry (LET) and all applicants intending to apply for the academic programmes listed under 1.1,1.2,2,3.1 and 4 are required to submit their applications through Online Registration whereas for programmes listed under 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6, the application forms can be had from the concerned departments/schools.
Applicants who have appeared/are appearing for their final qualifying examinations are also eligible to apply. Degrees obtained through distance education programmes other than through IGNOU are not recognized by the regulations of the University in force.
Those who are applying for First Degree Programmes in Engineering & Technology (B.Tech and Integrated M.Sc in Photonics) : the CAT will be conducted with test centres in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai, Banglore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Ranchi, Varanasi, Allahabad, Jamshedpur, Kota, all district head quarters in Kerala and Overseas Centres at Dubai & Bahrain. Those who are applying for PG Programmes / both First Degree Programmes including LL.B and PG Programmes : the CAT will be conducted in the Centres at all the district head quarters in Kerala only. Lateral Entry Test will be conducted only at Kochi Centre. The DATs are conducted at Kochi by the Individual Departments/Schools/Centres of the University on dates to be announced later.
The University reserves the right to cancel any or all the notified Test-Centres for administrative reasons including dates/rules & regulations relating to programmes of study, eligibility and admission criteria, fee structure and other relevant matters. All disputes relating to CAT shall be subject to the jurisdiction of Courts at Kochi only. Appearance in the CAT or figuring in the rank list does not ipso facto confer any right for admission to a particular course unless found suitable as per the eligibility criteria as amended from time to time.
1. Admissions Through CAT Applicants for the following programmes are required to take the CAT, except where specifically indicated otherwise 1.1 First Degree Programmes
a. B.Tech. in Aerospace Engg., Aircraft Manufacturing & Maintenance Engg., Civil Engg., Computer Science & Engg., Electrical & Electronics Engg., Electronics & Communication Engg., Information Technology, Mechanical Engg., Safety & Fire Engg.
b. B.Tech. in Polymer Science & Rubber Technology
c. Five Year Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics
Eduational Qualification for a, b & c above: Pass in Plus Two Examination of the State of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.
d. B.Tech in Instrumentation
Pass in Plus Two examination of the State of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together, with at least 55% in Mathematics separately.
e. B.Tech. in Marine Engg. (Residential Programme)
1) Pass in Plus Two or equivalent examination with physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% marks and should have obtained 50% marks in English at 10th or 12th standards.
2) Vocational/Diploma students are not eligible to apply.
3) The Maximum age limit prescribed is 20 years as on 1st October 2007.
f. B.Tech. in Naval Architecture & Ship Building.
Pass in Plus Two examination of the State of Kerala or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with a First Class securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics as well as for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.
g. 5 Year LL.B.* (Hons.) (Cost sharing course)
1. Pass in Plus Two examination with 60% marks in Science / Commerce group or 55% marks in Arts / Humanities. 2. Should not have completed 21 years of age on 1 st January of the year of admission.
1.2 Post Graduate Programmes
LL.M.
Bachelors degree in Law with at least 45% marks.
M.A. Hindi Language and Literature
B.A./B.Sc. degree with Hindi as a subject of study with at least 45% marks in Hindi.
M.B.A. (Full-time / Part-time*).
A degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. *conditions apply.
M.B.A. (Travel and Tourism )**
A degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate
M.B.E. (Master of Business Economics)
Bachelors degree or equivalent in any subject including Engg., Technology, Agriculture and Medicine recognized by the University with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
M.C.A.*** offered by CUSAT and its recognized institutions.
Any graduate with Mathematics as one of the main or subsidiary subjects or graduate in Electronics/Computer Science/Computer Applications/Engg./Technology with aggregate 55% marks in all subjects other than Languages and Humanities.
M.I.B. (Master of International Business)
A degree in any subject recognized by the University with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.
M.Sc. Applied Chemistry
B.Sc. degree with Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry/Environmental Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry/Petrochemicals as main, with Mathematics as one of the subsidiary subjects with at least 55% marks in the main subject.
M. Sc. Biotechnology
Bachelors degree in any branch of Life Sciences including Agricultural and Medical Science or Chemical Science or Chemical Engg. with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate.
M.Sc. Electronic Science*
First class B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons.) degree with not less than 60% aggregate marks in Electronics, Computer Science, or Physics (with Electronics). Candidates with higher degrees are not eligible for admission.
* With specialisation in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Microwave Electronics and Computer Technology.
M. Sc. Environmental Technology
Bachelors degree in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries, or Engg. (Civil/Public Health/Environmental or Chemical) or Life Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/Zoology/Botany/Microbiology with 55% marks.
M. Sc. Hydrochemistry
B.Sc. degree in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries or B.Sc. degree of any University in Kerala with Polymer Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry/Petrochemicals/Environment & Water Management as the main subject and Mathematics and Physics/Computer Science, as subsidiaries with 55% marks in the respective main subject.
M. Sc. Industrial Fisheries
Bachelors degree in Zoology/Botany/Fisheries with at least 55% marks in the optional subjects. Bachelors degree in Fisheries includes bachelors degree in Industrial Fisheries, Aquaculture/Fishery Science/Industrial Fish and Fisheries/BFSC in Nautical science.
M. Sc. Marine Biology
B.Sc. degree with any branch of Life Sciences such as Aquaculture, Bio-chemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Microbiology and Zoology as a main subject or B.Sc. degree in Fishery Science with at least 55% marks in the optional subjects.
M. Sc. Marine Geology
Bachelors degree, in Geology/Maths/Physics/Chemistry with 55% aggregate marks for optionals.
M. Sc. Marine Geophysics
B.Sc. degree with at least 55% aggregate marks in (a) Geology (main) with Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry as subsidiaries (b) Physics (main) with Mathematics and Geology or Chemistry or Electronics as subsidiaries (c) Mathematics (main) with Physics and Geology or Chemistry as subsidiaries.
M. Sc. Mathematics
B.Sc. degree with Mathematics main, with at least 55% marks for optional subjects taken together.
M. Sc. Meteorology
B.Sc. degree with Physics/Mathematics as the main subject with 55% marks. Those with Mathematics as the main subject should have studied Physics as one of the subsidiary subjects and vice-versa.
M. Sc. Oceanography
B.Sc. degree with Physics/Mathematics as the main subject with 55% marks. Those with Mathematics as the main subject should have studied Physics as one of the subsidiary subjects and vice-versa.
4.M. Sc. Physics
B.Sc. degree with Physics main and Mathematics as subsidiary with at least 55% marks in Physics.
M. Sc. Statistics
B.Sc. degree in Mathematics or Statistics with at least 55% marks for optional subjects taken together.
