Varsity Seeks Alternative Dates For Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examinations(TNPCEE)

Varsity Seeks Alternative Dates For Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examinations (TNPCEE)

Conduct examination either on May 18, 19 or on May 20, 21

Chennai:

The Anna University has written to the Tamil Nadu Government, seeking alternate dates to conduct the Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination (TNPCEE) for admission to professional courses for the year 2006-07.

The TNPCEE Co-ordination Committee, which met here on Friday, sought permission to conduct the examinations either on May 18 and 19 or May 20 and 21, as against the dates of May 13 and 14 announced by the Government. A notification about the change of dates, if any, would be made soon.

“Around 25 colleges that would be venues for the entrance examinations have also been designated as counting centres on May 11 for the Assembly election, scheduled for May 8. We sought alternate dates as there would be insufficient time after counting votes to prepare the centres for the examination,” Anna University Vice-Chancellor D. Viswanathan, who chaired the meeting, said. The All India Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Entrance Examination is also scheduled for May 14, necessitating a change of dates for the TNPCEE.

Vice-Chancellors of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and directors of Technical Education, Medical Education and Collegiate Education attended the meeting.

Time-table:

As per the proposed schedule, biology (including vocational candidates) and physical sciences examinations will be held in the forenoon (9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.) and afternoon (2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.) respectively on the first day of examination, followed by mathematics (including vocational candidates), physics, chemistry and economics on the forenoon of the second day. The last three exams would be only for vocational stream candidates.

The syllabus will be based on the higher secondary course of the State Board.

Online application forms will be available from April 10 onwards and the last date to submit forms is April 28. Around 54 online centres will issue the forms. “The TNPCEE would be conducted in 295 centres across 41 cities. The admission process is likely to be over by August,” Mr. Viswanathan said.

Each examination will have a duration of three hours. Biology (including vocational), physical sciences, physics (vocational), chemistry (vocational) and economics (vocational) papers would have 120 questions each while mathematics (including vocational) paper would contain 90 questions.

Application forms:

Applications can also be had by post by applying in the prescribed format to the Secretary, TNPCEE, Centre for Entrance Examinations, Anna University or can be downloaded from www.annauniv.edu after furnishing necessary details.
