Applications invited for Postgraduate Diploma Course in Print Journalism

MASCOM (Manorama School of Communication) invites applications for its fourth one-year. Postgraduate Diploma Course in Print Journalism. Requests for the Prospectus and Application. Form should be accompanied by a demand draft of Rs. 500/- in favour of MASCOM, payable at Kottayam. The deadline for receiving completed applications is April 22, 2005. The course will begin in mid-June 2005 and end in May 2006.

Candidates with a bachelors degree in any discipline and those awaiting degree results may apply. Selection is based on an entrance examination to be held at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore,various centres in Kerala and in Dubai (UAE) on May 14, 2005, and an interview at MASCOM in Kottayam in early June 2005.

MASCOM was launched on August 17, 2002, by the 117-year-old Malayala Manorama group. It has already become an acknowledged centre of excellence for journalism training in India. The course introduces students to state-of-the-art journalism through meticulously designed training modules, which ensure the students receive a well-rounded education in journalism and current events.

During the course, the students will bring out about 25 issues of their weekly lab newspaper, undertake overnight newsgathering fi eld-trips, visit the Kerala Assembly and interview the Chief Minister and members of his cabinet to gain fi rst-hand insight into governance of the state. Students are provided with personal computers and 24-hour dedicated Internet connectivity. A telephone with STD facility is also available to them for newsgathering.

MASCOMs in-house instructors, both Indian and from abroad, are experienced journalist-teachers with national and international exposure. Assisting the core faculty is a panel of acknowledged experts in their chosen fi elds.

All MASCOM graduates are currently working in various capacities in national and regional media and publishing houses across the country.

MASCOM will help provide admitted students with comfortable, furnished quarters and the MASCOM canteen offers meals at subsidised rates.

The medium of instruction at MASCOM is English, but students are free to choose between English and Malayalam streams for specialisation. For students aspiring to a career in English or Malayalam journalism, MASCOM training will give them a headstart in the profession.

Caste/Tribes with up to two attempts in their MBBS/BDS career will be eligible for MD.MS, and House job in Oral Health Sciences.The candidates completing intership after 30.06.2006 are not eligible for course No.1, 2, &3.
The number of seats wherever indicated are provisional and may increase/decrease without any prior notice.
