The Department of Technical Education explicitly provides technically trained manpower in various fields of Engineering & Technology encompassing Diploma, Post Diploma, Degree & Post Graduate level courses conducted through technical Institutions like Polytechnics/ Engineering Colleges/ Institutions of Management/ Computer/ Pharmacy thereby also meeting the requirements of Industries/ Departments/ Organisations and other user agencies.

Department of Science & Technology (DST) was established in May 1971, with the objective of promoting new areas of Science & Technology and to play the role of a nodal department for organizing, coordinating and promoting S&T activities in the country. The Department has major responsibilities for specific projects and programmes.

The department, right from the inception in 1951 has been offering undergraduate and advanced studies under the three broad fields of applied mechanics and engineering design, thermal sciences and energy systems, and manufacturing processes and systems.

Department of Management Studies began a Diploma Course in Business Management. In July 1971, the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A) course (both full time and part time) was inaugurated. The Department has an exclusive Library and a Computer Laboratory.

ISMU has launched its AICTE approved MBA program under the Department of Management Studies in 1997. The Department has been constantly rated as one of the leading business schools of the country by agencies of repute like AIMA-BS Survey, Business India.

The Department of Management Studies of Indian School of Mines in Dhanbad in Jharkhand, Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) and a degree in industrial engineering and management programmes. It issues a permit for students on the basis of assessments common Admission Test (CAT).
