Orissa Joint Entrance Exam 2007
For admission to BTech, BArch, MBBS, BDS, BPharm, BHMCT, MCA and MBA courses And Lateral Entry to BTech, BPharm and BHMCT Courses In Government and Private Colleges
The Joint Entrance Examination for the year 2007 - 2008, Orissa shall be held on Sunday, May 27, 2007 at selected centers for admission to the first year Degree courses in Engineering/Technology, Architecture, Hotel Management and Catering Technology (HMCT), MBBS/BDS, Pharmacy, MCA, MBA and to the Lateral Entry of State candidates to third semester of degree courses in Engineering/Technology, HMCT and Pharmacy.
Eligibility:
(A) For admission to First Year Bachelor programme in
I. Engineering/Technology: Pass or appearing in 10+2 examination of CHSE, Orissa or equivalent with Physics, Mathematics, and one from Chemistry/ Computer Science/Biology/Biotechnology or pass in 10+3 diploma course in engineering including those having less than 60% marks in aggregate from SCTE&T, Orissa or equivalent.
II. Architecture: For admission to Architecture candidates are to secure minimum 50% marks in aggregate in 10+2 Examination of CHSE, Orissa or equivalent with Mathematics and one from Physics/Chemistry/ Computer Science/Biology/Engineering Drawing.10+3 years diploma with 50 % marks in aggregate can also apply.
III. Pharmacy: Pass or appearing in 10+2 examination of CHSE, Orissa or equivalent with Physics and Chemistry and one from Mathematics/Biotechnology/Computer Science /Biology or pass in 10+3 diploma course in Pharmacy including those having less than 60% marks in aggregate from SCTE&T, Orissa or equivalent.
IV. Hotel Management and Catering Technology: Pass or appearing in 10+2 examination in Arts/Commerce/Science from CHSE, Orissa or equivalent. (v) MBBS/BDS : Pass or appearing in 10+2 examination of CHSE, Orissa or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology with atleast 50% marks in aggregate in these subjects taken together (40% for SC/ST) with age between 17 and 25 years as on 31.7.2007 (relaxable up to 3 years for SC/ST candidates).
(B) For admission to First Year Masters programme in
I. Computer Application (MCA): Pass or appearing in 2007 three years Bachelors Degree examination in any discipline with pass in Mathematics at 10+2 level or in +3 level.
II. Business Administration (MBA): Pass or appearing in 2007 three years Bachelors Degree examination in any discipline from a UGC recognized University.
(C) For admission to Second Year Engineering/Technology, Pharmacy and HMCT under Lateral Entry: Pass or appearing in 3 years diploma course in Engineering, Pharmacy, and HMCT with atleast 60% marks in aggregate from SCTE&T, Orissa or equivalent.
(D) For admission to Second Year Engineering/Technology under Lateral Entry: Pass or appearing in 2007, for the Bachelors Degree examination of three years duration in Science from any University of Orissa or equivalent recognised by UGC and have passed with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate(First Division) with Mathematics at +3 level.
(E) For admission to Second Year Pharmacy under Lateral Entry: Pass or appearing in 2007, for the Bachelors Degree examination of three years duration in Science from any University of Orissa or equivalent recognised by UGC and have passed with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate ( First Division) with Biology at +3 level.
The ratio of distribution of seats under lateral entry for Diploma: B. Sc. is 80:20.
Note: Candidates are to produce their complete result alongwith original marksheet of qualifying examination at the time of counselling for admission.
Reservation: The percentage of seats to be reserved for different categories is subject to change and the decision of the State Government as on the date of admission will be applicable.
Outside State candidate: Outside State candidates are not eligible for admission in Govt. Colleges but they are eligible for admission to Privates Colleges.

On behalf of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the CPMT-2006 Examination for the admission to the 1st year of MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS and BUMS courses in various Government and recognized/ approved Medical/ Dental/ Homeopathic/ Ayurvedic/ Unani Colleges of Uttar Pradesh is being conducted by UP King Georges University of Dental Sciences, Lucknow at various centres in Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal on Monday May 8, 2006.
Schedule of Examination:-
CPMT-2006 examination will be held on Monday May 08, 2006 in two shifts as follows: -
10:00 AM -12:00 Noon: Chemistry and Physics
2:00 PM-4:00 PM: Zoology and Botany
Examination Centres: - CPMT-2006 examination will be arranged at the following cities.
Agra, Allahabad, Aligarh, Bareilly, Faizabad, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut. Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad, Noida, Saharanpur, Varanasi, Dehradun, Delhi or any other centre prescribed by UP King Georges University of Dental Sciences.
Eligibility:
a) Domicile: - The candidate must be a citizen of India and of U P Domicile/ Permanent resident of Uttranchal (for candidates seeking admission to the seats reserved for Uttaranchal candidates as explained in the information brochure)
b) Age: - ThecandidateshouldnothavebeenbornlaterthanDecember31, 1989(Date inclusive).
c) Educational Qualifications: - The candidate must have passed the Intermediate examination of the State Board in the Science Group (Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany) with English as one of the subjects/ (10+2) or other equivalent. Examination of some other recognized Board/University in U.P. with 50% average marks in the Science Subjects (for General category candidates) and 40% for OBC/SC/ST candidates.
(i) For admission to BAMS course the candidates passing Madhyama examination of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi are also eligible.
(ii) For admission to BUMS the candidate must have passed examination in Urdu at High School or equivalent level.
(iii) For admission to MBBS/ BDS courses, the eligibility conditions will be as specified by the Medical Council of India/ Dental Council of India.
The candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in the year 2006 are also eligible, but they will have to produce the evidence of passing the examination at the time of counseling, if selected.
Reservation:-
(i) In all Medical/ BDS Colleges in all courses, seats to be filled through CPMT- 2006 are reserved as per policy of U.P. Government:
27% for OBC
21% for SC and
2% for ST candidate.
(ii) For candidates seeking admission to the Uttranchal seats the reservation will be:
14% for OBC
19% for SC and
4% for ST candidates.
A horizontal reservation of 20% to the Women candidates (WC), 3% to Physically Handicapped (PH), 2% to Dependants of Freedom Fighters (FF), 2% to the son/daughter of Ex-serviceman (Handicapped in War, Retired or Martyrs) (ES) (for U.P. Candidates only), 2% to the son/daughter of Ex-army Personnel (EA) (for Uttranchal seats only)

The cost of the form for General and OBC Candidates is Rs.610/- (Rs. 600/- + Rs. 10/- Bank Charges) and for SC/ ST Candidates the cost of the form is Rs. 310/- (Rs. 300/ + Rs. 10/- Bank Charges).

Exam Details:
Applicable for admission to first year of three year full time regular post graduate degree course in Master of Computer Application (MCA). The institutes, which qualify for the admission process as per these rules, are:
Approved by all India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
Recognised by the Government of Maharashtra.
Affiliated to any one of the ten Non Agricultural/ Non Technological Universities in Maharashtra state.
Following are the types of Institutes in the Maharashtra state covered by these rules;
a) All Government Institutes offering MCA courses
b) All University Departments offering MCA courses
c) University Managed Institutes offering MCA courses
d) All Un-Aided Institutes offering MCA courses whose Association has given consent to participate in the CAP rounds conducted by the State Government.

Syllabus for MAH-MCA-CET 2007 Examination
Scheme of CET: The MAH-MCA-CET 2007 examination comprises of two papers (objective type) of one hour duration each with negative marking of 1/4th weightage that of correct answer. viz. General Aptitude (GA) and Computer Concepts (CC). The syllabus & sample question paper are available on website and also in brochure.
General Aptitude: The main objective of this paper is to assess the general aptitude of the candidate to pursue a computer applications and software profession.
Syllabus: The questions in this paper will cover: logical reasoning, quantitative reasoning, high school mathematics, vocabulary, English comprehension and verbal ability. A good grasp of the following topics of high school mathematics (up to the 12th standard) will be useful:
Algebra: Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansion, factorization, Quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, binomial theorem, permutations and combinations.
Co-ordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian co-ordinates, equations of a line, mid point, intersections etc., equations of a circle, distance formulae, pair of straight lines, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola, simple geometric transformations such as translation, rotation, scaling.
Differential Equations: Differential equations of first order and their solutions, linear differential equations with constant coefficients, homogenous linear differential equations.
Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, height and distance, inverse function.
Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, and measures of dispersions, skewness and kurtosis, random variable and distribution functions, mathematical expectations, Binomial, Poisson, normal distributions, curve fitting, and principle of least squares, correlation and regression.
Arithmetic: Ratios and proportions, problems on time-work, distance-speed, percentage, etc.
Basic Set Theory and Functions: Set, relations and mappings.
Mensuration: areas, triangles and quadrilaterals, area and circumference of circles, volumes and surface areas of simple solids such as cubes, spheres, cylinders and cones.

2.0 Eligibility Criteria
2.1 Basic Qualification: In order to secure admission to first year of MCA course, the candidate should fulfill the following eligibility criteria;
Candidate should be Indian National and should have passed with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate1 ( 40% in case of backward class category candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only) in any Bachelors degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities and having studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination.
Candidates who have appeared2 for the final year examination of any Bachelors degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities and having studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination can also appear for MAH-MCA-CET 2007 but shall have to fulfill the basic qualification as mentioned above i.e. Passed with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate ( 40% in case of backward class candidates from Maharashtra State only).
Note: The candidates who have passed Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) degree course with minimum % of marks as stated above are not required to fulfill the requirement of having studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination.
2.2 Eligibility Criteria for admission to Maharashtra State candidates (Type A-E) for the seats coming under CAP: (refer rule No. 3.1 for the definition of type of candidature for Maharashtra State Candidate)
1. Basic qualification as specified in rule no. 2.1. refer prospectus
2. Appeared and qualified in the Common Entrance Test MAH-MCA-CET 2007 conducted by the Competent Authority for the academic year 2007-2008.
2.3 Eligibility Criteria for admissions to OMS candidates for the 15% seats coming under CAP: (refer rule No. 3.2 for the definition of Outside Maharashtra State Candidate)
1. Basic qualification as specified in rule no. 2.1. refer prospectus
2. Appeared and qualified in AIMCET 2007 for seeking admission to MCA.
OR
Appeared and qualified in the Common Entrance Test MAH-MCA-CET 2007 conducted by the Competent Authority for the academic year 2007-2008.
2.4 Eligibility Criteria for admissions against seats for NRI/ Foreign National/ Foreign student/ PIO/ Children of Indian workers in the Gulf countries:
1. Basic educational qualification as specified in rule no. 2.1. refer prospectus
2. Appeared and qualified in AIMCET 2007
OR
Appeared and qualified in the Common Entrance Test MAH-MCA-CET 2007 conducted by the Competent Authority for the academic year 2007-2008.
OR
Any other equivalent examination conducted for the academic year 2007-08.
Note: For NRI /Foreign National/Foreign student/PIO/ Children of Indian workers in the Gulf countries candidates the condition of Indian Nationality specified in rule 2.1 does not apply.
2.5 Eligibility Criteria for Minority / Management seats:
1. Basic qualification as specified in rule no. 2.1. refer prospectus
2. Appeared for AIMCET 2007
OR
Appeared for the Common Entrance Test MAH-MCA-CET 2007 conducted by the Competent Authority for the academic year 2007-2008.
OR
CET conducted by agency (including Association of all colleges of a particular type in the State) approved by Pravesh Niyantran Samiti located at Bandra (E), Mumbai-51 for the academic year 2007-08.
In case of Minority seats, the candidate should belong to the minority community / group for which the institute has secured minority status for MCA course.
Note:
1. There shall be no reservation for Backward Class Category Candidates in Unaided Minority Institutes.
2. The candidates who will remain absent for MAH-MCA-CET 2007 shall be treated as not eligible for admission and result of such candidates will not be declared.
3. Candidate securing zero marks in MAH-MCA-CET 2007 / AIMCET / Association CET / any other equivalent CET will not be considered eligible for admission. Names of such candidate shall not appear in the merit list.
4. Eligible NRI candidates may be offered admission against the Management Seats in Unaided Institutes, limited to maximum 15% of total sanctioned intake.
5. Aggregate marks means the grand total of marks obtained by the candidate in subjects based on which the class declaration is made in the particular University from which the candidate is passing the qualifying examination.
6. Candidates appeared for final year examination fulfilling the remaining eligibility criteria will be offered provisional admission subject to the condition that they will pass the examination with the required percentage of marks on or before 30th September 2007.
7. Candidates aspiring to seek admission to the MCA course should follow the instructions given in Annexure-I for filling up On-line Application form, appearing for CET-2007, filling up the option form etc.
Age limit: There is no age limit for admission to first year of three year post graduate degree course in MCA course.

Fees for online submission of application form is Rs. 750/- for open category candidates from Maharashtra State, Outside Maharashtra State ( OMS ) and J&K Migrant candidates and Rs. 550/- for reserved category candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only (i.e. Maharashtra State candidates having relevant backward class caste certificate issued by Maharashtra State authorities). The J&K Migrant candidates who wish to apply under OMS quota also, should pay fees of Rs. 1500/-.
The candidate has to pay the prescribed fees of the application form in the form of DD (demand draft)/Pay Order of any Nationalised /Scheduled / Private Sector Commercial bank drawn in favour of Director of Technical Education, Mumbai payable at Mumbai at the time of receipt of the information brochure at ARC.
The ARC Officer shall issue the Receipt of the sale of Application form in prescribed format on the Specimen Application form.
No other mode of payment shall be permitted.
This fee is non refundable and non transferable under any circumstances.
Stage II Online Submission of Application Form at ARC
The candidate shall read the information brochure and fill up the Specimen Application Form as mentioned in Annexure -VIII of the Information Brochure for the purpose of practice only.
Aspiring candidates are required to fill the same information as on Specimen Application Form in the web based Online Application Form for Admission to MCA through the web site www.dte.org.in/mca at any of the ARCs as mentioned in Annexure -V. However, candidates can also fill up the Online Application Form for Admission to MCA through any computer connected to Internet, either from home or cyber café and take the printout of the Online submitted Application form, for confirmation at the ARC.
Applications received through online submission will be considered valid for further processing only after the confirmation of the submission of Application form at the ARC.
Late Submission & Confirmation of the Application Form: Those candidates who may fail to procure information brochure and/or fail to submit the On-Line Application Form and/or fail to Confirm the Application Form at the Designated ARCs will be permitted to procure/submit and confirm the Application form at the following address after payment of the additional late fee of Rs.1000/-. There shall be no transfer of students at any stage from Govt./ Govt. Aided/ University Department/ University managed to Un-Aided institute in Maharashtra and no transfer of students from any institute located outside Maharashtra to any institute in the Maharashtra.
The candidates are informed that the medium of instruction, for the MCA course in all the Universities in the State is English.
At the time of seeking admissions, a candidate will be provisionally admitted to MCA course at a college / an institute subject to the production of the Provisional Eligibility Certificate from the University to which the college / institute is affiliated or by which the College / Institute is recognized, and its subsequent confirmation by the University. Each of the candidate is advised to ensure before applying for admission to the CET and the MCA course in a particular University that he / she is eligible for admission to the course as per the relevant Eligibility Rules of the University. The admission to the courses MBA/MMS is centralized and is covered under Centralized Admission Process (CAP) carried by the Competent Authority of the State of Maharashtra.
Common Entrance Test (CET)
1. The CET comprises multiple choice objective type questions in the areas of Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Aptitude and Logical / Abstract Reasoning. In all there would be 200 questions to be answered in a total time of two and half hours (i.e. One hundred and fifty minutes).
2. Contents of the Test Of Verbal Ability And Reading Comprehension. This is a test to see how well you know English language. In this test there will be passages with questions based on their contents to test your comprehension. Your English Language ability would be tested through questions on grammar, vocabulary, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms, comprehension of passages etc. Your English language ability would be tested through questions on (1) understanding of the contents of the passage and (2) choice of appropriate words, phrases, expressions and similar language skills.
3. Contents of the test of quantitative aptitutde.
This test helps to know how fast and accurate you can work with numbers, do numerical calculations understand various arithmetic problems involving ratio and proportion, percentage, etc. This test also helps to measure your power of quantitative reasoning, interpretation of tables, common graphs and charts.
4. Contents of The Test Of Logical / Abstract Reasoning.
This test measures how quickly and accurately you can think. This test may have questions based on figures and diagrams and also questions on verbal reasoning.

2.0 Eligibility Criteria:
2.1 Basic Qualification: In order to secure admission to first year of two-year full time MBA/ MMS/ PGDBM/ PGDBA course, the candidate should fulfill the following eligibility criteria; Passed with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate* (40% in case of candidates of backward class categories belonging to Maharashtra State only) in any Bachelors degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities.

Such candidates can be considered for provisional admission subject to passing the Degree exam with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate 40% in case of candidates of backward class categories belonging to Maharashtra State only).
Note: Candidate is advised to ensure before applying for admission to the CET and the MBA / MMS programme in a particular University that he / she is eligible for admission to the programme as per the relevant Eligibility Rules of that University. Note:
OMS Candidates who have appeared for CAT/ JMET / MAT / ATMA / XAT and seeking admission to MBA/MMS course against 15% seats coming under CAP shall have to fill up & confirm the application form for the CET i.e. MAH-MBA/MMS CET 2007 as per the procedure outlined in Annexure-I. Such OMS candidates only will be permitted to appear for the GD, PI conducted by Competent Authority of the State of Maharashtra.
J & K migrant candidates may also apply under both the OMS category as well as J & K category. These candidates shall have to pay total fees of Rs.2300/- and procure two receipts from the identified post office. These candidates will be considered for allotment against both the OMS seats under CAP as well as J & K Seats under counseling round.

Any other combinations of Common Entrance Tests and GD,PI which is not specified in rules 2.2. to 2.6 shall be considered as INVALID for the purpose of admissions e.g. Candidates who appear for the Common Entrance Test (MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2007) conducted by the Competent Authority and appear for the GD & PI conducted by the Management of the Unaided Institute will not be eligible for the admission in Unaided Institutes.
5. Candidates securing zero marks or less than zero marks in MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2007 / GMAT/ CAT / JMET / MAT / ATMA / XAT / Association CET / Any other equivalent CET will not be eligible for admission. Such candidates will not be called for GD, PI and names of such candidates will not appear in the merit list.
6. Aggregate marks means the grand total of marks obtained by the candidate in subjects based on which the class declaration is made in the particular University from which the candidate is passing the qualifying examination.
7. Candidates appeared for final year examination fulfilling the remaining eligibility criteria will be offered provisional admission subject to the condition that they will pass the examination with the required percentage of marks on or before 30th September 2007.
8. Candidates aspiring to seek admission to the MBA/MMS/PGDBM/PGDBA courses should follow the instructions given in Annexure-I for filling up On-line Application form, appearing for CET-2007, GD & PI and filling up the option form etc.
Reservation for Backward class Candidates: The percentage of seats reserved for candidates of backward class categories belonging to Maharashtra State (Type A to E as given in Table given in Rule 3.1 i.e. MS candidates) are as per the details in table below. The percentages of reservation are the percentages of the seats available for Maharashtra candidates (Maharashtra State Quota) which are coming under the purview of the Competent Authority in the Government/Government Aided/ University Department institutes/Unaided Minority and Unaided Non-Minority Institutions.
[Note: Exact % will be decided by the Pravesh Niyantran Samiti, Bandra (E), Mumbai as per the proposals of different institutes. There shall be no reservation for Backward Class Category Candidates in Unaided Minority Institutes. OMS candidates are not permitted to claim reservation under Backward Class category.]
Backward class candidates shall claim the category to which they belong at the time of submission of application form. These are the minimum percentages of reservation exclusive of the backward class candidates securing allotment through General Merit.

5.0 Selection basis and Selection Procedure adopted for admission:
5.1 Assignment of merit number:
5.1.1 Merit Number:
a) Maharashtra candidates: Each Maharashtra State candidate who has appeared and secured non zero score in the MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2007 and appeared for GD & PI will be assigned a State level Merit Number and a University area Merit number.
b) Outside Maharashtra candidates: Each Outside Maharashtra State candidate who has appeared and secured non zero score in MAH-MBA/MMS CET 2007 and appeared for GD & PI or after conversion from their CAT / JMET / MAT / ATMA / XAT score into equivalent marks out of 200 and the marks awarded to them for GD, PI, PAR, WE out of 40 marks conducted by Competent Authority will be assigned a State level OMS merit number.
c) J & K Migrant Candidates: Each J & K Migrant candidate who has appeared and secured non zero score in the MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2007 and appeared for GD & PI conducted by Competent Authority of Maharashtra State will be assigned a State level J&K Merit Number.
5.1.2 Relative merit in case of equal marks: In the case of candidates securing equal final MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2007 Score, (i.e. CET+GD+PI+WE+PAR) their relative merit will be determined on the basis of the following order of preference:
a) When the final MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2007 scores are the same, the candidate with higher marks in the CET written examination will get preference.
b) When the final MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2007 scores and also the marks in the CET written examination are the same, the candidate with higher marks in PI will get preference.
c) When the final MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2007 scores, the marks in CET written examination, and also the marks in PI are the same, the candidate with higher marks in GD will get preference.
d) When the final MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2007 scores, the marks in CET written examination, the marks in PI, and also the marks in GD are the same, the candidate with higher percentage of marks scored in the aggregate at the HSC( Std. XII ) or its equivalent examination will get preference.
e) When the final MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2007 scores, the marks in CET written examination, the marks in PI, the marks in GD, and also the percentage of marks in the HSC Exam or its equivalent examination are the same, the candidate with higher percentage of the marks scored in the aggregate at the SSC (Std. X ) or its equivalent examination will get preference.
5.1.3 The seats will be allotted to the candidates strictly on the basis of their merit number in the respective merit list (i.e. University Area / State level / OMS candidates / J&K migrant candidates etc.),
options given by the candidate and the number of seats available for that candidate during the process of allotment.
Age limit: There is no age limit for admission to first year of two year post graduate course in Management viz. MBA / MMS / PGDBM / PGDBA.

The Director of Technical Education, Maharashtra State, Mumbai continues the system of online receipt of application form for MBA/ MMS/ PGDBM/ PGDBA for the year 2007-08 through authorized Application form Receipt Centers (ARCs) mentioned in information brochure.
Stage I Sale of Information brochure & receipt of Application fees
Information brochure for the aspiring candidates will be available at the identified post offices of selected cities as mentioned in the Notification against the payment of the application processing fees.

Exam Details:
The University will hold Entrance Examination on May 15, 16, 17 and 18, 2006 for admission to various full-time programmes of study at the following 52 cities: Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Allahabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Bareilly Bhubaneshwar, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Danapur Cantt., Dehradun, Delhi, Gangtok, Guwahati, Goa, Gorakhpur, Gulbarga, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Imphal, Indore, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Katihar, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Pant Nagar, Patna, Pondicherry, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Secunderabad (A.P.), Shillong, Shimla, Siliguri (Distt. (A) MPhil/ PhD in: International Politics, Organisation, Disarmament, Political Geography and Diplomatic Studies; International Legal Studies; International Trade and Development; South Asian, Central Asian, Southeast Asian & Southwest Pacific Studies; Chinese, Japanese & Korean Studies; West Asian, North African and Sub-Saharan African Studies; Canadian, United States and Latin American Studies; European Studies; and Russian & Central Asian Studies.
Eligibility:
(I) Candidates with Masters Degree in Political Science, History, Economics, International Relations and Area Studies with atleast 50% marks; or Masters degree in Humanities and other Social Sciences with atleast 60% marks or Masters Degree in Natural Sciences with atleast 65% marks are eligible to apply in fields other than International Legal Studies, International Trade & Development and Political Geography.
(II) Candidates seeking admission to MPhil/ PhD programme in International Trade & Development must have their MA in Economics with atleast 50% marks and familiarity with Mathematics and Statistics upto Bachelors level.
(III) Candidates seeking admission to MPhil/ PhD programme in Political Geography must have Masters degree in Geography with atleast 50% marks with sufficient knowledge of quantitative methods and techniques; and with political Science, or International Relations or Economics as a subject at the BA level or Masters degree in International Relations, Political Science, History, Economics or Oceanography and Environmental Studies with atleast 50% marks and with Geography as one of the subjects at Bachelors degree level or with Political Geography as one of the subject at the MA level.
(IV) Candidates seeking admission to International Legal Studies must have an LLB (Three year) degree after Bachelors degree with atleast 55% marks; or an LL.B (Five year) degree with atleast 55% marks in the aggregate or an MA with International Law as one of the subjects with atleast 55% marks in the aggregate or a LL.M. degree with atleast 50% marks in the aggregate.
(B) MA in: Politics (with specialization in International Relations)
Eligibility: Bachelors degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks.
(C) MA in: Economics (with specialization in World Economy)
Eligibility: Bachelors degree in Economics under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks in aggregate and with either Mathematics or Statistics as a paper or subsidiary subject.

Eligibility: Masters degree in the subject concerned with atleast 50% marks; or Masters degree in allied subjects or Humanities with atleast 55% marks; or Masters degree in Natural Sciences with atleast 60% marks. For Centre for Studies in Science Policy: Masters degree in Social Science or Humanities or Law or Management with 55% marks or Masters degree in Natural Sciences or Bachelors degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine with 60% marks. For Centre of Social Medicine & Community Health: Masters degree in Sociology, Psychology and Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, History/Social Work, Geography, Population Studies, Public Administration, Nutrition and other relevant Applied Science and Social Science subjects with 50% marks.
(B) MPH/ PhD (Master of Public health)
Eligibility: MBBS Degree with atleast 50% marks and atleast one years work experience after internship; or MSc Degree in Nursing with atleast 50% marks and atleast one years experience in Community Health Nursing.
(C) MA in: Economics, geography, History, political science and sociology
Eligibility: Bachelors degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks.
IV. School of Life Sciences
(A) MPhil/ PhD in areas of interdisciplinary research in molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Plant Biotechnology, Genetics, Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Neurobiology, Microbiology, Radiation and Cancer Biology, Bio-Physics and Structural Biology.
Eligibility: This programme is open to candidates having MSc degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grades in either biological or physical sciences, as well as to those with an MBBS degree. Candidates having degree in allied subjects in Life Sciences including Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Botany, Genetics, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Zoology, or in Chemistry or Physics, or disciplines of Agricultural Science or M.B.B.S. degree are considered eligible. This basic eligibility criterion would remain the same for both categories of applicants above.
(B) MSc in life sciences: An integrated interdisciplinary programme in Modern Biology.
Eligibility: Bachelors degree in Biological, Physical or Agricultural Sciences or equivalent under 10+2+3 pattern of education with atleast 55% marks.
V. School of Environmental Sciences
(A) MPhil/ PhD in environmental sciences including interdisciplinary areas of biology (Ecology, Biotechnology, Biophysics, Bioremediation), Chemistry (Air, Water, Soil Pollution), Geology and Physics.
Eligibility: MSc degree or equivalent in any branch of basic or applied sciences or MBBS degree with atleast 55% marks.
(B) MSc in Environmental Sciences: An interdisciplinary course with environmental orientation, drawn from relevant areas of biological, chemical earth and physical sciences.
Eligibility: Bachelors degree in any branch of basic or applied science under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.
VI. School of Computer & Systems Sciences
The school offers academic programmes leading to the degrees in computer science and technology
(A) MPhil/ PhD & MTech/ PhD
Eligibility: Masters degree in Computer Science or Mathematics or Statistics or Operational Research or in any branch of Science or Bachelors degree in any branch of Engineering or Master of Computer Applications (MCA) with at least 55% marks or an equivalent Grade Point Average.
(B) MCA (Master of Computer Applications): 3 year programme open to candidates with adequate competence in mathematics.
Eligibility: Bachelors degree in any discipline with adequate competence in Mathematics under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.
VII. School Of Physical Sciences
(A) Pre-PhD/ PhD in physical sciences (pure physics and interface of physics and chemistry). The emphasis is on topics of chemical physics, computational physics; condensed matter physics, disordered systems, Granular Materials, mathematical physics, Nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, nonlinear dynamics, quantum chaos, quantum optics and statistical nuclear physics. Experimental areas include complex fluids, materials science, Superconductivity, Magnetism, nonlinear optics, Semiconductors, Polymers and Nanoparticle Physics.
Eligibility: Masters degree in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics with atleast 55% marks. Candidates having majored in Physics or Chemistry should have had Mathematics atleast up to the Bachelors level. Candidates majoring in Chemistry should have specialized in Physical Chemistry/ Chemical Physics at the MSc level. Exceptions can be made in case of applicants with a BTech (Electronics/ Electrical) degree provided they successfully compete in University entrance examination.
(B) MSc in Physics
Eligibility: Bachelors degree (with Physics as one of the subjects) under 10+2+3 pattern of education with 55% marks in the aggregate (or in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics combined).
VIII. School Of Arts & Aesthetics
A) MPhil in arts & aesthetics (subject to clearance by the Academic Council)
Eligibility: Masters degree in any branch of Arts & Aesthetics with at least 50% marks.
(b) MA in Arts & Aesthetics: The M.A. in Arts and Aesthetics is devoted to the history, critical theory and aesthetics of visual and performing arts, primarily of India. Specialization is available in the streams of visual and performing arts with a common pool of core courses.
Eligibility: Bachelors degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks.
IX. School Of Information Technology
MTech in computational and systems biology
Eligibility: For Biology Track: Masters Degree in any branch of biological sciences or equivalent, MBBS, or BHMS or equivalent as recognized by Government Council such as MCI with at least 55% marks. Mathematics till class X is required and class XI and above is preferred. For Non Biology Track: MSc in any branch of Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or B.Tech, B.E. or equivalent in any branch of engineering with atleast 55% marks. Biology till class X is required and Class XI and above is preferred.
X. Centre For Biotechnology
Pre-PhD/ PhD Gene Transfer and Expression in Eukaryotic system, Transcription Control and Gene Regulation, Protein Engineering, Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases, Molecular Immunology, Protein Stability, Conformation & Folding, Optimization of Recombinant Protein Production, Structural Biology & Molecular Bioinformatics, and Biochemical Engineering.
Eligibility: Masters degree in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry or any branch of Biological Sciences with atleast 55% marks.
XI. Centre For Sanskrit Studies
MPhil/ PhD in Sanskrit
Eligibility: Masters degree in Sanskrit or in an allied subject (with Sanskrit up to BA) with at least 55% marks.
MA in Sanskrit
Eligibility: Bachelors Degree in Sanskrit or in any other subject under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks.
XII. Centre For Molecular Medicine
Pre-PhD/ PhD in Areas of Metobolic Disorders, Infectious Diseases, Diagnostics and Molecular Endocrinology.
Eligibility: Masters degree in any branch of biological sciences/ MBBS/ BVSc/ BPharm degree with at least 55% marks.
XIII. Centre For The Study Of Law And Governance
MPhil/ PhD in Law and Governance
Eligibility: Masters degree with 50% marks in Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Sociology, History, Philosophy or an equivalent degree in Law; or 60% in any natural science discipline.
(Category-B) Admission of JRF Holders to MPHIL/ PhD and Pre-PhD/ PhD Programme
The University admits a limited number of candidates to MPhil/ PhD and Pre-PhD/ PhD programmes (without appearing in the Entrance Examination) who have qualified a National Test entitling them to a JRF in Schools of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer & System Sciences, Information Technology & Centres for Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine.
Eligibility: Only those candidates who fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for admission of candidates to MPhil/ PhD and Pre-PhD programmes through Entrance Examination in above Science Schools/ Centres and have qualified a National Test entitling them to a JRF are eligible to apply.
(Category-C) Part-Time Programmes
The University will hold Entrance Examination for admission to Certificate of Proficiency and Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu one-year Part-Time Programmes of Study in the School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies in Delhi only. Since these are Part-Time programmes, it is intended for candidates residing in Delhi NCR only. Admission to Diploma of Proficiency and Advanced Diploma in Proficiency will be made on basis of the past academic record of the candidate which will be assessed in accordance with the criteria laid down by the University for Selection.

2. Advanced Diploma of Proficiency: Senior School Certificate, (10+2) or equivalent with atleast 45% marks in aggregate and Diploma of proficiency in language concerned or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto.
3. Diploma of Proficiency: Senior School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent with atleast 45% marks in aggregate and Certificate of Proficiency in the language concerned or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto.
4. Certificate of Proficiency: Senior School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent with atleast 45% marks in aggregate.
How To Apply:
Application Forms together with Prospectus can be had either personally on cash payment of Rs. 120/- per set between 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. on all working days (Monday to Friday); or through post by sending crossed Bank Draft for Rs. 200/- payable to Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi alongwith a self-addressed unstamped envelope of the size of 28 cms X 20 cms to the Assistant registrar (admissions), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067. General Information
Foreign Nationals: All foreign nationals present in India are required to appear in the Entrance Examination at any one of the Centres in India. Candidates from Nepal and Sri Lanka have an additional facility of Entrance Examination Centres at Kathmandu (Nepal) and Colombo (Sri Lanka). However, in the event of their selection, they will be considered for admission subject to equivalence of their qualifications as per eligibility requirements. Foreign Nationals who have passed their qualifying examination from any of the recognized universities in India are required to fulfill the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for Indian students as indicated under Category-A above. Foreign Nationals who are selected for admission to any of the programmes of study through Entrance Examination are given preference for fee concessions.
Reservation of seats: 15% seats for SC, 7.5% seats for ST and 3% seats for PH (Physically Challenged (Handicapped) (with a minimum of 40% disability) are reserved for candidates belonging to these categories. All SC, ST and Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates who have passed and/ or are appearing in the qualifying examination are eligible to apply for admission irrespective of their percentage of marks. Candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (who are not from creamy layer and whose parents are not income tax payers) will be eligible for deprivation points. Besides, all candidates who have passed qualifying examination prescribed for admission to the concerned programme of study from the identified backward districts will be eligible for deprivation points. All Kashmiri migrants and wards/widows of certain categories of Defence Personnel will be eligible for deprivation points subject to their submitting a documentary evidence of their status(For details, refer to Chapter V of Prospectus). Only those candidates will be eligible for deprivation points as stated above who seek admission through Entrance Examination.
Note that:
There being different Application Forms for different levels of programmes of study for admission to
(I) JRF holders in Science Schools;
(II) MPhil/ PhD, Pre-PhD/ PhD, MTech/ PhD, MPH/ PhD;
(III) MA, MSc, MCA;
(IV) For BA (Hons.) in Foreign Languages and
(V) Part-Time programmes, candidates should clearly indicate in their request as well as on the top of the self addressed envelope the level of the programme for which the Application form is required.
For admission through Entrance Examination under Category-A above and Certificate of Proficiency (Part-Time Programme) under Category-C above, candidates can opt upto a maximum of three Fields of Study in a single Application Form for the same level of Programmes i.e. COP (Part-Time) or BA (Hons) or MA /MSc/ MCA or MPhil/ PhD, Pre-PhD/ PhD, MTech/ PhD, MPH/ PhD, and are not required to fill separate Application Forms. For admission of JRF holders to MPhil/ PhD and Pre-PhD under Category-B above and for Diploma and Advanced Diploma (Part-Time) programmes under Category-C above, the candidates are required to fill in separate Application Form for each Field of Study. In case a candidate submits more than one Application Form for the same level of programmes of study, his/her candidature will be outrightly rejected. However, this restriction will not apply to candidates who apply for admission of JRF holders to MPhil/ PhD and Pre-PhD programmes under Category-B above and Diploma/ Advanced Diploma of Proficiency (Part-Time Programmes) under Category-C above.
1. Candidates intending to seek Direct Admission to PhD Programme of study in various disciplines, are advised to refer to the admission announcement being notified separately.
2. Candidates who are due to appear in respective qualifying examination prescribed for eligibility for admission to a particular programme are also eligible to appear in the entrance examination. In the event of their selection, they will be admitted only if their results of the qualifying examination are declared before 14th August, 2006 and they fulfill the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed in the prospectus.
3. The candidates for admission to the MA/ MSc/ MCA programmes who have obtained their Bachelors degree under the pattern of education other than 10+2+3 would be considered eligible for admission only if they have successfully completed the first year of Masters degree programme or a bridge course in lieu thereof, wherever prescribed, by a recognised University in the relevant discipline with prescribed percentage of marks.
4. The University does not offer correspondence courses.
5. While the University, on its part, shall ensure timely despatch of Application Forms soon after receipt of the request from intending candidates, it will, however, in no way own any responsibility on account of postal delays, if any.

(II) For Ch. Sarwan Kumar HP Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Palampur: Bachelors degree in Agriculture/Horticulture/ Forestry with a minimum OGPA of 2.70/4.00 or 6.00/10.00 or its equivalent from a recognized University OR a degree from a foreign University recognized as equivalent for the purpose (with at least B grade or its equivalent.
(III) For G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Panlnagar: Bachelors degree under 10+2+4/ 5 pattern of education in Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences, Horticulture, or Forestry with at least 55% marks from a recognized University & Students with Bachelors degree in Science wilh either ZBC or PCM groups are eligible to take admission after qualifying the entrance examination. Remedial courses are mandatory which may extend the degree.
(IV) For Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur: Bachelors degree under 10+2+4/5 pattern of education in Agriculture, Veterinary. Dairy Technology. Horticulture, Forestry with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade from a recognized University.
(V) For Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur: Bachelors degree under 10+2+4 pattern of education in Agriculture, Horticulture, or Forestry with at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade from a recognized University.

(VIII) For Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore: Bachelors degree under 10+2+4 pattern of edueatiort in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry OR Agricultural Engineering, with at least 70% marks or equivalent grade from a recognized University; and
(IX) For University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad: Bachelors degree in Agriculture, Horticulture or Forestry from a recognized Agriculture University. CGPA not less inan 2.25/4.00 or 6.50/10.00 or its equivalent. For SC/ST and Category 1 candidates, mere pass is enough.

Eligibility: Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade in any one: BTech/ BE in Chemical Engineering/ Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Technology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, BPharma, Chemical Technology, OR MSc in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics. (Also BTech/ BE in Electrochemistry, Bioengineering and MSc in Chemistry & Physics in case of Anna University and MSc in Bioengineering in case of WBUT)

In Person: Application form alongwith brochure can be obtained personally on cash payment of Rs. 120/- per set from any of the participating University as mentioned above.
By Post: Those willing to get the Application Form by post should send their request only to the Deputy Registrar (CEEB), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067, alongwith a valid bank-draft of Rs. 180/-(for one set of application form). The bank draft should be payable to Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. The request should accompany a self-addressed unstamped envelope of the size of 28×20 cms indicating clearly: Request for Application form for: (I) MSc Biotechnology OR (II) MSc (Agri)/ MVSc Biotechnology OR (III) MTech Biotechnology.

Tuition Fee/ Scholarship: Fee shall be charged from the admitted candidates as per the fee structure of concerned University. Candidates selected for admission to those of the participating Universities, which are supported by the Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India), are generally eligible for scholarship at the rates prescribed by the Dept. of Biotechnology.
Candidates may please note that the MSc Biotechnology programme being offered at Punjabi University, Patiala and Thapar Institute of Engg and Technology Patiala, is currently not being financially supported by the Department of Biotechnology. Therefore, the award of scholarships, if any, shall be governed by the rules prevailing in these Universities. Students admitted to Gulbarga University and Mysore University will not get any scholarship.
Reservation/ Concession:
(a) Reservation 15%, 7V4% and 3% of seats shall be reserved for SC, ST and Physically Challenged (Handicapped) (PH) candidates respectively. All the SC/ST and PH candidates who have passed the qualifying examination are eligible to apply irrespective of their percentage of marks in the qualifying degree examination.
(b) Concession for Kashmiri Migrants: 10% marks will be added to the overall marks scored by a Kashmiri Migrant candidate in the entrance examination. After adding 10% marks, in case he/she is covered in the cut-off point in the merit list, he/she will be offered admission strictly in accordance with his/her inter-se merit alongwith other candidates subject to his/ her meeting the minimum prescribed eligibility requirements and also subject to his/her producing valid registration documents issued by the notified authorities certifying the candidates Kashmiri Migrant status.
There are different sets of Application Forms for each programme and, therefore, candidates are advised to apply separately in case they wish to apply for more than one programme i.e.
a. For MSc Biotechnology OR
b. For MSc (Agri)/ MVSc Biotechnology OR
c. For MTech Biotechnology Programme.
