About Common Entrance Test (CET)

About Common Entrance Test (CET)

The Common Entrance Test (CET) is the entrance examination for the MMS (Master’s in Management Studies) programme conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education for gaining admission into colleges in Maharashtra. Click here for some basic information about CET and for the list of some institutes accepting CET scores for admission.

CET is a very unique test in the sense that all the students who sit for the written test are invited for Group Discussion & Personal Interview. The distribution of marks is as follows: -
Written Test - 200 marks
GD - 17 marks
PI - 17 marks

Past Academic Record - 4 marks (75% and above at SSC: 2 marks. 75% and above at HSC: 2 marks. Above 60% but less than 75% at SSC & HSC: 1 mark each.)

Work Experience - 2 marks (Work experience of 3 years and above, 2 marks. More than 1 year but less than 3 years, 1 marks. This experience must be with a company listed on the Stock Exchange, Mumbai.)

The maximum marks that a student can obtain are 240. Since 200 of these or 83% arise from the CET, the test itself is of paramount importance. Therefore, it is imperative to do your best in the written test.

Since this is a jumbled test, the following areas are included; -

Verbal Ability & Verbal Reasoning - 65
Reading Comprehension - 8
Quantitative Aptitude - 26
Data Interpretation - 21
Logical & Analytical Reasoning - 50
Visual Reasoning - 30

Applications are invited for MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2005 for admission to First Year of the Two-year Full Time Post Graduate Degree Courses in MBA/MMS in Government, Unaided, University Managed Management Institutes and University Departments in the Maharashtra State.

Admission Process:

The admission process for CET is as follows: -
Students need to register only for the CET and not apply individually to the allied institutes of their choice.

There is no short-listing based on score in the written test.
This means all students who write the test also appear for the GD and PI. On the basis of the cumulative performance in the three (Test+GD+PI), a merit list is prepared.

Finally, a counseling session is organized by the testing body to offer admission on ‘higher the score better the institute’ principle. The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) takes care of the entire selection process of CET and thereafter GD and PI for colleges in Maharashtra. Top performers are offered admission to the best institutes (depending on the number of seats) and so on. In case a student is willing to join the institute offered during counseling, he is required to pay the first installment within the specified period. If not, the next candidate on the merit list is offered the seat.
