Union Public Service Commission - National Defence Academy and Naval academy Examination (I), 2007

The Union Public Service Commission will hold the National Defense Academy and Naval Academy Examination, (I), 2007 on 22nd April, 2007 for admission to Army, Navy and Air Force Wings of NDA for 119th Course and Naval Academy for 39th, 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course commencing from January, 2008.

Salient features of the examination are published herein for general Information of candidates, For details regarding the Syllabus and Scheme of the examination, Centers of examination, Guidelines for filling up application form etc. aspirants must consult the Detailed Notice of the examination published in the Employment News / Rozgar Sam char dated 14th October, 2006.

2. Conditions of Eligibility
(a) Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status:

Only unmarried male candidates who must have attained the age of 16 ½ years and must not have attained the age of 19 years on the 1st January, 2008 i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1989 and not later than 1st July, 1991.
(b) Educational Qualifications:

(i) For Army Wing of National Defense Academy: - 12th Class pass of 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

(ii) For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defense Academy and for 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course of Naval Academy:- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics, conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Candidates who are appearing in 12th Class under 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this Examination.

c) Physical Standards:

Candidates must be physically fit according to the physical standards for admission to National Defense Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2007 as given in Appendix-V of Commissions Notice for Examination published in Employment News / Rozgar Sam char dated 14th October, 2006.

3. Application Form:

The Candidates must apply in the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its examinations which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices / Post Offices (specified in Appendix-III of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs.20/- (Rupees twenty only), Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination.

In case of any difficulty in obtaining Application Forms from the designated HPOs / Pos, the candidates should immediately contact the concerned Post Master or UPSC`s Forms Supply Monitoring Cell over Telephone No.011-23389366 / Fax No.011-23387310.
4. Fee

Rs. 50/- (Rupees fifty only) through Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only. SC/ST candidates are exempted from payment of Fees. (OBC candidates are required to pay full fees.)
5. Address and Last Date for Receipt of Applications:

All applications must reach the Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi 110069 either by hand or by Post / Speed Post or by Courier, on or before the 13th November, 2006.

However, in respect of candidates residing abroad or in certain remote localities specified in the Notice the last date for receipt of applications by Post / Speed Post only (not by Hand or by Courier) is 20th November 2006.

Section Officers / Stenographers (Grade B / Grade I) Limited Departmental Competitive Examination, 2005

A Combined Limited Departmental Competitive Examination for additions in the Select Lists for the Section Officers Grade and Stenographers Grade-I / Grade B of the Services mentioned below will be held by the Union Public Service Commission commencing on the 26th December, 2006 at Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Nagpur:
Section Officers Grade of the Central Secretariat Service.
Section Officers Grade (Integrated Grade II & III) of the General Cadre of Indian Foreign Service, Branch B.
Section Officers Grade of the Railway Board Secretariat Service.
Grade A & B merged of the Central Secretariat Stenographers Service.
Grade I of the Stenographers Cadre of Indian Foreign Service, Branch B.
Grade A & B merged of Armed Forces Headquarters Stenographers Service.
Grade B of the Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers Service.
Section Officers Grade of the Intelligence Bureau.

Only certain categories of departmental candidates who are employed as Assistants or Stenographers Grade C / Grade II of these Services or as Cypher Assistants Grade II Of Cypher Sub-cadre of the Indian Foreign Service B are eligible to apply for this examination.

Availability Of Application Form: Application forms and full details are obtainable from Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi 110069 by remitting Rs.20.00 (Rupees twenty only) by Money Order or on cash payment at U.P.S.C. Counter from 24th July, 2006. Candidates must clearly state on Money Order coupons S.Os/ Stenographers (Grade B/Grade-I) limited Departmental Competitive Examination, 2005 and also give their names and full postal addresses in block letters. Payment by any other mode viz. Indian Postal Orders, cheque, currency notes, etc. is not acceptable in lieu of Money Order.

Last Date For Receipt Of Applications: 18th September 2006. In the case of applications received by post (by post) from the candidates residing in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Lahaul and Spiti District and Pangi Sub Division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands or Lakshadweep and for candidates residing abroad, the last date for receipt of applications is 25th September, 2006. The benefit of extended time will be available only in respect of applications received by Post /Speed Post and Diplomatic Bag (in respect of employees posted in Indian Missions abroad only) from the above mentioned areas/regions. In the case of applications received by hand or Courier Service, benefit of extended time will not be available, regardless of the place of residence of the applicant.

Union Public Service Commission - Geologists Examination 2006

The Union Public Service Commission will hold the Geologists Examination, 2006 commencing from 2nd December 2006 for recruitment to the posts of Geologists (Junior), Group A in the Geological Survey of India and Jr. Hydro geologist (Scientist B) Group A and Assistant Hydrogeologist, Group B in the Central Ground Water Board. The examination will be held at various centers across the country.

Condition of Eligibility:

Age Limits: Candidates must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st January 2006. The upper age limit is relaxable for scheduled castes/scheduled tribes/other backward classes/physically handicapped and certain other categories of candidates to the extent specified in the notice.

Educational Qualification: A candidate must hold i) Masters degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology; or ii) Masters degree in Mineral Exploration (for posts in Geological Survey of India only), or iii) Masters degree in Hydrogeology (for posts in Central Ground Water board only) from a recognized University; or iv) Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.

Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to the regulations given in Appendix-II of the rules for the Geologists Examination, 2006 published in the gazette of India dated 17th June 2006

The union public service commission will hold the Indian economic service/Indian statistical service examination commencing from 18th November 2006 for recruitment to grade IV of the Indian economic service and Indian statistical service. The examination will be held at various centers across the country.

Minimum academic qualifications prescribed :

A Bachelor’s degree with atleast one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a degree in Agriculture or Forestry or Engineering of a recognized University or equivalent. Age Limits21-30 years as on 1.7.2006
Remarks: Candidates appearing at degree examination (with prescribed subject) also eligible to compete subject to certain conditions.

The dates of notification and commencement of the examinations and the conditions of eligibility indicated above are liable to alteration, if the circumstances so warrant.

Except for the Defence Services Examinations at Serial Numbers 2,3,8 and 9, the upper age limits are relaxable in the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes and certain other categories as notified by the Government from time to time

Female candidates are not eligible for the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination and the Combined Defence Services Examination.

General Studies of Main Examinations

The nature and standard of questions in these papers will be such that a well-educated person will be able to answer them without any specialized study. The questions will be such as to test a candidates general awareness of a variety of subjects, which will have relevance for a career in Civil Services.

Paper I

(a) History of Modern India and Indian Culture
The History of Modern India will cover history of the Country from about the middle of nineteenth century and would also include questions on important personalities who shaped the Freedom Movement and Social reforms. The part relating to Indian Culture will cover all aspects of Indian Culture from the ancient to modern times.

(b) Geography of India
In this part, questions will be on the physical, economic and social geography of India.

(c) Indian Polity
This part will include questions on the Constitution of India, Political system and related matters.

(d) Current National issues and topics of social relevance
This part is intended to test the Candidates awareness of Current national issues and topics of social relevance in the present-day India, such as the following.

Demography & Human Resource & related issues. Behavioural & Social issues Social, Welfare problems, such as child labour, gender equality, adult literacy, rehabilitation of the handicapped and other deprived segments of the society, drug abuse, public health etc.

Law enforcement issues, human rights, corruption in public life, communal harmony etc. Internal Security and related issues.

Environmental issues, ecological preservation, conservation of natural resources and national heritage.
The role of national institutions, their relevance and need for change.

Paper-II

(a) India and the World
This part is intended to test candidates awareness of Indias relationship with the world in various spheres, such as the following:-
Foreign Affairs
External Security and related matters
Nuclear Policy
Indians abroad

(b) Indian Economy
In this part, questions will be on the planning and economic development in India, economic & trade issues, Foreign Trade, the role and functions of I.M.F., World Bank, W.T.O. etc.

(c) International Affairs & Institutions
This part will include questions on important events in world affairs and on international institutions.

(d) Developments in the field of science & technology, communications and space
In this part, questions will test the candidates awareness of the developments in the field of science & technology, communications and space and also basic ideas of computers.

(e) Statistical analysis, graphs and diagrams
This part will include exercises to test the candidates ability to draw common sense conclusions from information presented in statistical, graphical or diagrammatical form and to point out deficiencies, Limitations or inconsistencies therein.

Plan of Civil Services Examination

The Civil Services Examination consists of two successive stages: (i) Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; and (ii) Civil Services Main Exam. (Written & Interview) for selection of candidates for the various services and posts noted below. After appearing at the Preliminary Exam., candidates who are declared successful to have qualified for admission to the Main Exam, (held during October/November) have to apply again, in the detailed application form which is supplied to them. Number of vacancies for 2006 exams, have been notified as 495 approx. (liable to alteration).
