If you are a first-year student in an undergraduate medical or engineering degree course after having appeared in the CBSE pre-medical test or the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), heres some good news coming your way. CBSE will give out monthly scholarships worth Rs 1,000 to 350 medical students and 150 engineering students who cleared the entrance examinations in 2005. And in continuation of the boards newfound zeal towards the single girl child, 5% of the total numbers of scholarships under both heads have been reserved for the single girl child. To be eligible for the scholarship scheme, the students should have secured a minimum of 60% marks in the 2005 Class XII board examination and should be pursuing the professional course in a central or state university or in any university recognised by the University Grants Commission. In addition, the students rank in the AIPMT should not be more than 2,933 and it should not be more than 33,447 in case the candidate had appeared for the AIEEE. The board had sent offer letters to eligible candidates and a list is also available on www.cbse.nic.in. The last date for receiving the duly- filled letters of acceptance is January 7, 2006.
