Eligibilty: BTech/BE/BArch/BPharm/MSc or equivalent degree (qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE, e.g. AMIE) with a valid GATE score. NET qualified applicants could be eligible for admission to MCP (visit http://gate.iitkgp.ac.in/mtech for details). Seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates and persons with disability as per Govt. of India rules.Reservation for OBC candidates is as per MHRD guidelines.
Selection: Except for sponsored candidates, selection is strictly based on GATE Score. However,applicants with professional qualifications, those with XE/XL paper in GATE, and sponsored candidateswho are short-listed, need to qualify through an interview and/or a test.
Sponsored Candidates: An applicant employed in an industry or any other recognized organization / institution with at least two years of experience will be eligible for admission to the MTech/MCP provided the applicant is sponsored by the employer. The applicant should have scored at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA (55% marks or equivalent CGPA for Master’s degree holders in Arts or Social Science subjects) in the qualifying degree examination. For sponsored applicants GATE score is not mandatory and they are not eligible for assistantship.
Assistantship: Applicants admitted on the basis of GATE score are eligible for assistantship of Rs. 5000 per month.

President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will Thursday lay the foundation stone for a research centre at the premier Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur and later visit a school for spastics here.
Kalam, who arrived here late Wednesday night, will inaugurate the B.C. Roy Multi-Speciality Research Centre at IIT-Kharagpur, about 125 km west of Kolkata, and also deliver a lecture there.

A senior officer at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kharagpur has accused the institute of suspending him for using the Right to Information Act to point out alleged irregularities in the appointment of top administrators.
Kalo Boran Mahapatra has complained to the Central Information Commission (CIC) that IIT Kharagpur suspended him last July after he asked for documents that he claims would have revealed that the selected candidates were not qualified for the posts.
