IIT- Powai, Mega plans to celebrate 50 years Exams in India

Established in the year 1958, the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) is chalking out plans to celebrate its golden jubilee later in 2007 in a big way and various events spanning over a year are being planned.

The IIT-Bombays golden jubilee opportunity would be used to launch new initiatives, celebrate successes of past years and reflect on the past and plan for future, said an official of the countrys premier engineering institute.

The Foundation Day would be celebrated on March 10, 2008 and the Institutes golden jubilee celebrations committee is planning to invite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to attend the event, where a book on IIT-Bombays 50-year journey would be released. For the 2008 convocation, the president would be invited. The concluding event would be celebrated on March 10, 2009, when a vision document would be released. From January 14-18, 2008, a vice-chancellors conclave would be held and vice-chancellors, presidents, directors from across the globe with connection to the premier institute would be invited.

Civil Servants Join Strike

Members of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) at the towns HM Revenue and Customs office in Saltire House, walked out over plans to reassign jobs to Edinburgh, as well as in support of national issues of job cuts, pay and privatisation. No Plans To Go Abroad: IIM-C

With Other Indian Institutes of Management (IIMS) planning to amend the Memorandum of Association (MOA) to enable them to expand overseas, IIM Calcutta has decided not to follow suit as the institute does not have any immediate plan to foray abroad. IIT for Orissa: NDA stages walkout

Standing up for Orissas demand for an Indian Institute of Technology, the BJP-led NDA members staged a walkout on the issue in the Lok Sabha as the Government said there were no plans for setting up the technical institute in the state. IIT-M gets land for research park

The State Government has allotted 11 acres of land sought by the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) for setting up a research park, through a government order recently. The plans and other financial arrangements for the building are ready and the project is expected to start soon. In 2003, IIT-Madras had asked for 12 acres in Taramani and the State Government allotted 6.59 acres in 2005. The IIT-M sought additional land to improve its connection with the IT corridor and also construct an 18-m access road. This 18 m road would enable IIT-M to construct a multi-storied building.
