Applications are invited for admission to the following program (i) Research (Ph.D./ M.Sc. Website: http://www.iisc.ernet.in/admissions. Candidates who have not yet completed their studies and expect to complete all requirements for the degree (including all examinations, dissertation projects, viva-voce etc.) before July 31, 2007 are also eligible to apply.
(i) Research Programs (Ph.D. / M.Sc (Engg)
Science Faculty (Ph.D.): Astronomy & Astrophysics, Biochemistry, Ecological Science, High Energy Physics, Inorganic & Physical Chemistry, Materials Research, Mathematics, Microbiology & Cell Biology, Molecular Biophysics, molecular Reproduction Development and Genetics, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Solid State & Structural Chemistry, and Management Studies.
Engineering Faculty (Ph.D. and M.Sc. (Engg): Aerospace Engineering, Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Automation, Electrical Research, Product Design & Manufacturing, Sustainable Technologies and Supercomputer Education & Research.
Interdisciplinary Programs (Ph.D.): Hematical Science, Earth System Science, Nanoengineering for Integrated Systems, Chemical Biology, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
Eligibility: Minimum second class in the qualifying examination
Science Faculty (a) Ph.D. Masters degree in Science in an appropriate field / Agriculture: or MBBS: or M.Pharma; or Masters degree in German Language (for Ph.D. in German)
Engineering Faculty
(b) M.Sc.(Engg): Bachelors degree in an appropriate field of Engineering / Technology / Architecture: or Masters degree in Science in an appropriate field, or post B.Sc. AMIE or equivalent degree in Engineering or MBA or equivalent degree or Masters degree in Economics. Social Work, Psychology, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science / Application.
(c) Ph.D.:
(1) Masters degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture in an appropriate field
(2) Candidates with qualifications as in (b) above are also eligible for direct admission to Ph.D.
Interdisciplinary Program
(d) Ph.D. Masters degree in any branch of Engineering, Science , Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications, Pharmacy, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, Management Science MBBS, BE / B Tech or equivalent degree qualifying in one of the following Entrance Test in mandatory for candidates eligible under (a), (b) (c2) and (d), and desirable for candidates eligible under (c1): CSIR-UGC NET for JRF: or UGC-NET for JRF; or ICMR JRF, or GATE; or IISC Entrance Test: or NBHM Fellowship (For Mathematics department only)
(ii) Course Programs (ME / M Tech / M Des) (a) ME in Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Microelectrics, Signal Processing & Automation, and Telecommunication Engineering.
Eligibility Minimum second class in Bachelor s degree in appropriate field of Engineering /Technology; or Post B.Sc., AMIE or equivalent in Engineering and valid GATE score.
Selection is based on Gate Score only
b) M Tech in instrumental. Electronics Design and Technology, and Computational Science.
Eligibility Minimum second class in the qualifying examination
(i) Instrumentation: Bachelors degree in Engineering / Technology in instrumentation & control Engineering / Electronics & Instrumentation / Electronics: or Masters degree in Science with specialization in Instrumentation / Electronics.
(ii) Electronics Design and Technology: Bachelors degree in Engineering / Technology with Electronics as one of the subjects of study; or Post B.Sc., AMIE or equivalent degree in Engineering or Masters degree in Physics (with Electronics as special subject) and 2 years experience in Electronics hardware.
(iii) Computational Science: Bachelors degree in Engineering / Technology: or Masters Degree in Science ( in all cases strong mathematical and programming background is required.
For (i) above selection is based o GATE score only.
For (ii) and (iii) an aptitude test in interview are conducted after screening based on the Gate scores.
(c) M. Des in Product Design & Engineering
Eligibility Minimum second class in Bachelors degree in Engineering / Technology / Design / Architecture or Post B.Sc. AMIE or equivalent in Engineering including Architecture. A Design Aptitude Test and interview will be conducted after screening on GATE / CEED scores.
(iii) Integrated Ph.D. Programs in
(i) Biological, (ii) Chemical, (iii) Physical and (iv) Mathematical Sciences
Eligibility First class in B.Sc. degree under 10+2+3 years system indicated below for the various disciplines. Please note that candidates with M.Sc qualifications are NOT eligible.
(i) Biological Science: B.Sc degree in Physical, Chemical or Biological Sciences (including Pharmaceutical, Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences)
(ii) Chemical Sciences: B.Sc. degree with Chemistry as one of the main subject with Mathematics at PUC (Plus 2) level.
(iii) Physical Sciences: B.Sc. degree with physics as a main subject.
(iv) Mathematical Sciences: B.Math; or Stat: or BA degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects or Bachelors degree in Engineering.
All candidates should qualify in IISc Entrance Test 2007. The short-listing of candidates for interview is based on performance in the IISc Entrance Test.
(iv) External Registration Program (ERP)
Science Faculty (Ph.D. Only): All departments in the Science Faculty except High Energy Physics
Engineering Faculty (M.SC [Engg] & Ph.D.): All departments in the Engineering Faculty except. Centre for Sustainable Technologies
Eligibility
Qualifications are the same as for regular candidates * Two years experience in the current employment.
Age NOT greater 25 years than 35 years for M.Sc. (Engg) and 40 years for Ph.D. as on 01.04.2007
Please note: Entrance Test or equivalent (like CSIR-UGC/UGC-NET for JRF / GATE / NBHM Fellowship / is desirable. Selection is based on performance in interview to be conducted at the Institute.
General: Reservation for SC / ST / OBC / Physically Handicapped and Kashmir-Migrant candidates: As per Government of India regulations.
Scholarships: All regular students who join the institute are eligible for scholarship / fellowship from CSIR / UGC / ICMR / AICTE / NBHM/ as the case may be Scholarships from GE / Infosys / IBM / HP / TATA / Philips / Bell / IAB are available for meritorious candidates.
How to apply
(a) Getting application forms
Research, Course and integrated Ph.D. programs
(1) Approach the Canara Bank Branches and get the forms against payment of cash of Rs.700/-
(2) Send your request for application form with 2 address slips (stickers), program to which admission is sought along with the demand draft for Rs.700/- for general candidates and Rs.350/- for SC/ ST/ PH candidates with a copy of caste certificate to the Deputy Registrar (Academic) Admissions Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore 560 012. The DD must be drawn in favour of Registrar, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
External Registration Program (ERP)
(1) Filled-in application forms should reach Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, IISc. Bangalore 560 012, with a DD for Rs.1500/- drawn in favor of Registrar, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
(b) Submission of Application Forms.
(1) Filled-in application forms should reach the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, IISc, Bangalore 560012 on or before 23.03.2007.
(2) Online application forms Online application form fee is Rs.500/- for general candidates and Rs.250/- for SC / ST / PH candidates. Online submission of submission of application forms may be made by accessing the IISc Website: www.iisc.ernet.in and should done on or before 20/03/2007
Separate application forms should be used for each of the programs viz Research or Course or integrated Ph.D. or ERP. Only one application form will be entertained for each program.
