Jamia Milia Islamia University is starting a new PG Diploma course on Child Rights with support from a Swedish NGO. The one-year course is expected to commence by January 2006. The course content will focus on a lot of issues including law, social work and sociology. The university also plans to rope in guest lecturers, said Rakshanda Jalil, media coordinator, Jamia.

The Delhi High Court has asked the Union human resources development ministry and University Grants Commission whether it was possible to have a common academic calendar for all the universities across the country. Justice Vikramajit Sen issued notices to the secretary. Union human resources development ministry and the UGC, asking them to file their reply by August 2, the next date of hearing. The Chinese mainland is considering opening six more airports to non-stop charter flights across the Taiwan Strait to cope with rising passenger traffic, a senior civil aviation official has said.
Currently, the mainland operates flights from Beijing, Shanghai,Guangzhou and Xiamen to Taipei and Kaohsiung in Taiwan.
The new airports would be Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shenzhen,Dalian and Guilin.

Malaysia and India have agreed to liberalise air services by boosting flights by 50 percent between major cities and opening up access to secondary airports in India.
Under the pact, aviation authorities will also be allowed to designate as many carriers as they wish to operate on the India-Malaysia route, the Indian government said in a statement issued in Kuala Lumpur.
Designated carriers from both sides can raise the number of flights between Malaysia and six major Indian destinations by 50 percent in the upcoming winter schedule, it said, following last week's bilateral aviation talks in Kuala Lumpur.

THE HRD Ministry has decided to make reservation for scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and other backward caste students mandatory in foreign universities opening their campuses in India. A top ministry official told Hindustan Times that a special section has been incorporated in the Bill on foreign universities after the law ministry's intervention. The ministry told us that since a constitutional amendment is being sought to make the reservation mandatory, it should be made applicable for all types of private institutes including foreign universities, an official said.
