President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will reach Kolkata today where he will take two sessions of classes on Nano Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Kharagpur. Besides, taking classes of B. Tech., Post Graduate and Phd. at the IIT, Kalam will also lay the foundation stone of the Dr. B.C. Roy Multi-Specialty Research Centre here. During his visit, Kalam will also interact with teachers and students at the National Council of Education function at Jadavpur University. The wait for more IIT -level engineering colleges is set to get longer. For the time being at least, the ministry of human resource developments plan of upgrading five engineering colleges may have been stymied by the state governments. These institutes, to be known as Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), are existing engineering colleges which the Centre will fund and upgrade to the same level as the IITs.
