President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will reach Kolkata today where he will take two sessions of classes on Nano Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Kharagpur.
Besides, taking classes of B. Tech., Post Graduate and Phd. at the IIT, Kalam will also lay the foundation stone of the Dr. B.C. Roy Multi-Specialty Research Centre here.
During his visit, Kalam will also interact with teachers and students at the National Council of Education function at Jadavpur University. Later, he will visit the Manovikas Kendra to interact with special children.

Kalam, who arrived here late Wednesday night, will inaugurate the B.C. Roy Multi-Speciality Research Centre at IIT-Kharagpur, about 125 km west of Kolkata, and also deliver a lecture there.

The wait for more IIT -level engineering colleges is set to get longer. For the time being at least, the ministry of human resource developments plan of upgrading five engineering colleges may have been stymied by the state governments.
These institutes, to be known as Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), are existing engineering colleges which the Centre will fund and upgrade to the same level as the IITs. West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala have objected to the Centres proposal to take over the institutes.

Describing former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as the pioneer of the country's information revolution, Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar today said the dreams he had for the country have started taking shape now.
The Governor was inaugurating an international seminar on 'nano ceramics' and 'nano composites' at IIT Kanpur. The workshop was attended by scientists and others from IITs and other institutions.
