The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee comprising Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), and Government of India. Girls beat boys yet again as the results of the Indian School Certificate (ISC) and the Indian Council of Secondary Examination (ICSE) were declared on Wednesday. While the overall pass percentage for Class X result was 96, that for Class XII was 93.5 with girls faring better than boys in both.
Girls have done remarkably well in these exams. On an average, for every 56 boys, there were 44 girls but, despite being less in number, they have secured a higher pass percentage, said Rita Wilson, deputy secretary, ICSE.

Based on the cut-off marks in the individual subjects as well as aggregate marks in the Examination, a common merit list will be prepared without any relaxed criteria. In addition, separate merit lists of candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PD categories will be prepared with different relaxed norms relevant to their categories. While preparing these merit lists, if a candidate belongs to more than one category of relaxed norms, he/she shall be considered only in the category in which he/she gets the maximum benefit.
