Manipuri : Main Examination Exams in India

PAPER-I

Answers must be written in Manipuri

Section A: Language:

(a) General characteristics of Manipuri Language and history of its development; its importance and status among the Tibeto-Burman Languages of North-East India; recent development in the study of Manipuri language; evolution and study of old Manipuri script.

(b) Significant features of Manipuri language: (i) Phonology: Phoneme-vowels, consonants juncture, tone, consonant cluster and its occurrence, syllable-its structure, pattern and types, (ii) Morphology: Word-class, root and its types; affix and its types; grammatical categories-gender, number, person, case, tense and aspects, process of compounding (samas and sandhi). (iii) Syntax: Word order: types of sentences, pharse and clause structures.

Section B

(a) Literary History of Manipuri:
Early period (upto 17th century): Social and cultural background; Themes, diction and style of the works.
Medieval period (18th and 19th century): Social, religious and political background; Themes, diction and style of the works. Modern period-Growth of major literary forms; change of Themes, diction and style.

(b) Manipuri Folk Literature:
Legend, Folktale, Folksong, Ballad, Proverb and Riddle.

(c) Aspects of Manipuri Culture:

Pre-Hindu Manipuri Faith; Advent of Hinduism and the process of syncreticism. Performing arts-Lai Haraoba, Maha Ras; Indegenous games-Sagol Kangjei, Khong Kangjei, Kang.

PAPER-II

Answers must be written in Manipuri.
This paper will require first hard reading of the texts prescribed and will be designed for test the candidates critical ability to assess them.

Plan of Civil Services Examination

The Civil Services Examination consists of two successive stages: (i) Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; and (ii) Civil Services Main Exam. (Written & Interview) for selection of candidates for the various services and posts noted below. After appearing at the Preliminary Exam., candidates who are declared successful to have qualified for admission to the Main Exam, (held during October/November) have to apply again, in the detailed application form which is supplied to them. Plan Of Examination of Civil Services Examination

The competitive examination comprises two successive stages: (i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examinations (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for Main Examination; and 1 (ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various services and posts. 2. The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of Objective type (Multiple choice questions) and carry a-maximum of 450 marks in the subjects set out in sub-section (A) of Section II. Scheme Of The Examination for Combined Matric Preliminary Exam

The Combined Matric Prelim. Exam. is to test for selection of candidates for the Main Examination for the different categories of posts mentioned in first paragraph. Restrictions on applying for Civil Services Examination

(a) A candidate who is appointed to the Indian Administrative Service or the Indian Foreign Service on the results of an earlier examination and continues to be a member of that Service will not be eligible to compete at this examination. In case such a candidate is appointed to the IAS/IFS after the Preliminary Examination of Civil Service Examination, is over and he/she continues to be a member of that service, he/she shall not be eligible to appear in the Civil Services Main Examination notwithstanding h^/her having qualified in the Preliminary Examination. General Instructions Preliminary and Main Examination

(i) Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. In no circumstances, will they be allowed the help of a scribe to write the answers for them.
