There will be two questions which must be answered in Persian. The remaining questions must be answered either in Persian or in the medium of examination opted by the candidate,
1 (a) Description of the origin and development of Persian Language. (Compulsory to be answered in Persian).
(b) Applied Grammar, Rhetorics, Prosody, Idioms and Phrases frequently used.
(i) Grammar: Ism and its kinds, Zamir-e-Murtasil and Munfasil, Murakkabi-Tausifi, Murakkab-i-Izafi, Ismi-Ishara, MusharunEIaih, Fel and its kinds, Tenses, Gardan, Singular and Plural, Jumleh and its kinds.
(ii) Rhetorics: Tajnees, Ishteqaq, -Luzum-ma-la-yalzum, Seyaqata! Aadad, Qalb, Tarsee, Esteaara, Maratun Nazir, Laff-o-Nashr, lham, Husn-i-TaalilrTajahuli-Aarefaneh, Talmih, Tansiqus, Siffat.
(iii) Prosody: Bahri-Muzara, Ramal, Mutaqarib, Tawil, Hazaj, Kamil

1. Short essay in Persian-250 words (to be answered in Persian).
2. History of Persian Literature in Iran and India; Literary criticism and styles; trends in classical and modern literature; socio-cultural influences, development of modern literary genres including drama, novel, short story.
Paper-II
There will be two compulsory questions-one each in textual portions of prose and poetry which are to be answered in Persian. The remaining questions are to be answered either in Persian or in the medium of examination opted by the candidate.
This paper will require first hand reading of the texts prescribed and will be designed to test the candidates critical ability.

The Civil Services Examination consists of two successive stages: (i) Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; and (ii) Civil Services Main Exam. (Written & Interview) for selection of candidates for the various services and posts noted below. After appearing at the Preliminary Exam., candidates who are declared successful to have qualified for admission to the Main Exam, (held during October/November) have to apply again, in the detailed application form which is supplied to them. 2. The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of Objective type (Multiple choice questions) and carry a-maximum of 450 marks in the subjects set out in sub-section (A) of Section II. This xamination is meant to serve as a screening test only;
The Combined Matric Prelim. Exam. is to test for selection of candidates for the Main Examination for the different categories of posts mentioned in first paragraph. The written exam. will comprise one paper with two parts.

Typewriting Test/Shorthand Test
The candidates who qualify the Main Exam(s) will have to undergo a Typewriting
(a) A candidate who is appointed to the Indian Administrative Service or the Indian Foreign Service on the results of an earlier examination and continues to be a member of that Service will not be eligible to compete at this examination.
In case such a candidate is appointed to the IAS/IFS after the Preliminary Examination of Civil Service Examination, is over and he/she continues to be a member of that service, he/she shall not be eligible to appear in the Civil Services Main Examination notwithstanding h^/her having qualified in the Preliminary Examination.
