Mumbai students bag engineering award at IIT

VAIBHAV Tidke and Darshan Mehta of the University Institute of Chemical Technology (UICT) , Mumbai, today bagged the Agilent Engineering and Technology Awards (AETA) 2007 held at IIT Delhi.

BTech and MTech students from leading engineering colleges in the country participated with their project reports either in the field of Electronics and Communications Engineering or Life Sciences or Chemical Engineering.

I am interested in pursuing research in renewable sources of energy. The dryer has been designed in order to enhance the value of vegetables and fruit produced in the country by adopting effective and less expensive unit and raw materials, said Vaibhav, a third-year student of BTech at UICT, who designed a Solar Pond Dryer.

Council cant make aptitude test compulsory: HRD

The ongoing tussle between the State government and the Council of Architecture (CoA), regarding the compulsory introduction of the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), was further intensified by a letter from the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) on July 9. The letter reassures the State government that theres no provision in the Architects Act, 1972 whereby CoA can make the aptitude test compulsory.

The matter relating to holding of NATA by CoA and making it compulsory for all architectural institutions has been examined in detail by the ministry in consultation with the ministry of law, states the letter.

The dispute started several months ago when the State government refused to accept NATA at government and government-aided colleges for admissions to Bachelor of Architecture (BArch), which was made mandatory by CoA from 2007 onwards.

US institutes to tie up with IIT-K

Geoffrey Pyatt, Deputy Chief of Mission, US Embassy, said that India is getting more attention from the US, than never before, and it would also be in the list of the its most important partners in times to come.

Pyatt was speaking at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) on US-India strategic partnership under Kanpur Indo-American Programme (KIAP) today. KIAP was started in 1962 for the development of IIT-K. Under the programme, the institute was funded by the US from 1962 to 1972. Even many faculty members came from US universities. However, later, the programme lost momentum and the assistance from US stopped.

Now after three decades, when IIT-K is rated among the top technical institutes in the world, the US has again decided to enter into collaboration with the institute.
