Exam Details:
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee comprising Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.

The overall coordination and responsibility lies with Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore designated as the Organizing Institute for GATE 2008.
Candidates will be required to appear in a single paper of three hours duration. The examination will be held from 0930 hours to 1230 hours on Sunday, February 10, 2008. The list of papers for GATE 2008 is given under structure of GATE (Click here). The question papers will be in english only.
Before applying for GATE 2008, candidates must assure themselves that they have chosen the right paper, which qualifies them to become eligible to seek admission to the specific programme they are interested in. The criteria for postgraduate admission with Scholarship/ Assistantship are different in various Institutes. GATE Offices will not provide any information in this regard. For more details, the candidates are required to contact the Institutes/Universities to which they are interested in seeking admission.
The choice of the paper is the responsibility of the candidate.
Question Paper Pattern: The question paper will consist of only objective type questions. Candidates have to mark the correct choice by darkening the appropriate bubble against each question on an Objective Response Sheet (ORS). There will be negative marking for wrong answers. The deduction for each wrong answer will be 25% of the allotted marks.

Eligibility:
The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE 2008:
1. Bachelor degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
2. Master degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
3. Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
4. Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.
How To Apply:
There are two different ways by which candidates can apply for GATE 2008 examination. They are
Online Application Process
1. Make Payment: In order to fill in the online application, payment has to made apriori. The payments are made through Demand Draft only.
Application fee: Rs. 900/- for General category and Rs. 400/- for SC/ST category.
The application fee is not refundable.
Demand drafts (Rs. 900 for General category and Rs. 400 for SC/ST category) should be made in favour of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on any nationalized bank payable at Bangalore. The original Demand Draft should be sent along with the generated application form (duly filled and signed), to Chairman GATE, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore-560012. Other enclosures are same as mentioned earlier.
2. Fill in the Online application form: You will have to first register to access the online application form. For registering, you will have to provide a login Id, password, first name, last name and email Id. It is important that you provide a valid email Id because in case you forget the password, a new password on request, will be sent to the provided email Id.
Open an ‘new application’ form and fill in the appropriate data. You will have to fill in the payment details also. Therefore, it is essential that before you fill in the online application form make sure that you have the Demand Draft as mentioned above. You must enter the Demand Draft number, the 9-digit Bank Id or the MICR No. (that is next to the Demand Draft number on the DD) and the Bank name for the payment details.
3. Print the online application form: After submitting the online application, you will be able to generate a PDF document of the online application with your specific details/data. For this you must logon to the GATE website from a computer that has Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 and above. From the onscreen view of the PDF document that your browser projects, you must Print the generated PDF online application form.
4. Paste Photo and Sign: On the Printed application form mentioned in step-3, Paste a recent good quality non-attested photo of yourself in the space provided. Sign in the space provided for specimen signature and the declaration at the bottom of the application form. The signature should be identical in both the places and it should be Your signature only. Signatures in Capital letters only or initials are not acceptable.
5. Obtain SC/ST/Disability Certificate: SC/ST certificate and/or Disability certificate should be obtained from appropriate authorities IF APPLICABLE. For a list of authorities who can issue SC/ST certificates, see the brochure (Click here)
6. Post: Place the Demand Draft, printed online application form and if applicable, the SC/ST and/or Disability certificates in an envelope and send it to The Chairman, Gate, Indian Institute Of Science, Bangalore - 560012 By Speed/ Registered Post only.
Offline Application Process
1. Obtain Brochure and application form: Application fee: Rs. 1000/- for General category and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST category.
The application fee is not refundable.
Information Brochures and Application Forms are obtainable on payment of cash from the designated Bank Branches corresponding to each zone. The bank pay-in-slip in original must be attached to the candidate’s application during submission. Candidates can also obtain Information Brochures and Application Forms by Post from/or personally at the GATE offices. For this purpose a Demand Draft is to be sent for the amount as above to the Chairman, GATE of the corresponding zonal GATE office, along with a request letter and two self-addressed slips.
The application packet contains the Information Brochure, Basic Data Sheet (BDS) cum Application form, Acknowledgement Card and the Envelope for enclosing the documents. CHECK that the application number is identical in all the above mentioned documents in the application packet. If there is any discrepancy, report to the Chairman, GATE of the corresponding zonal GATE office.
2. Fill in the BDS cum application form: Read the Information brochure. Fill in the BDS cum application form by referring to the chapter-5 of the Information brochure.
3. OBTAIN SC/ST/Disability CERTIFICATE: SC/ST certificate and/or Disability certificate should be obtained from appropriate authorities IF APPLICABLE. A list of authorities who can issue SC/ST certificates is given in chapter-5 of the brochure
4. POST: Fill in the Acknowledgement Card and the Envelope. Place the BDS cum Application Form, bank pay-in-slip/receipt of payment, Acknowledgement card and if applicable, the SC/ST and /or Disability certificates in the provided Envelope and send it to the respective zonal GATE office depending on the first choice of the examination city where the candidate wishes to appear. The envelope with enclosures may be handed over personally to the respective zonal GATE office or be sent by SPEED/ REGISTERED POST only.

Examination: The Combined Entrance Examination consists of objective type question in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (Combined).
Eligibility:
The candidates having Indian nationality should have passed Senior School Certificate Examination from the recognised School/ College/ Institute located within the National Capital Territory of Delhi or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto by the University of Delhi securing 60% or more marks in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (50% or more marks for candidates belonging to SC/ST category, 55% or more marks for candidates belonging to CW (Defence)/ Physically Handicapped category). The candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply for the CEE-2007.
Minimum Age: 17 years on or before 1st October, 200
Reservation of seats:
1. 15% seats for Scheduled Castes and 7.5% seats for scheduled Tribes.
2. 5% seats for Children / Widows of Personnel of Armed / Para Military Forces killed / disabled in action during hostilities (CW).
3. 3% seats for Physically Handicapped (1% for persons with low vision or blindness, 1% for hearing impaired, 1% for those with loco motor disabilities and / or cerebral palsy),
4. The reservation of Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates as per the Government of India directives is currently being processed. Percentage / number of seats and modalities of such reservation will be notified separately in due course.
Note: All candidates (viz covered under General /SC/ST / CW / PH Category) will be required to appear in the Combined Entrance Examination CEE-2007.

Exam Details:
Applicable for admission to first year of three year full time regular post graduate degree course in Master of Computer Application (MCA). The institutes, which qualify for the admission process as per these rules, are:
Approved by all India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
Recognised by the Government of Maharashtra.
Affiliated to any one of the ten Non Agricultural/ Non Technological Universities in Maharashtra state.
Following are the types of Institutes in the Maharashtra state covered by these rules;
a) All Government Institutes offering MCA courses
b) All University Departments offering MCA courses
c) University Managed Institutes offering MCA courses
d) All Un-Aided Institutes offering MCA courses whose Association has given consent to participate in the CAP rounds conducted by the State Government.

Syllabus for MAH-MCA-CET 2007 Examination
Scheme of CET: The MAH-MCA-CET 2007 examination comprises of two papers (objective type) of one hour duration each with negative marking of 1/4th weightage that of correct answer. viz. General Aptitude (GA) and Computer Concepts (CC). The syllabus & sample question paper are available on website and also in brochure.
General Aptitude: The main objective of this paper is to assess the general aptitude of the candidate to pursue a computer applications and software profession.
Syllabus: The questions in this paper will cover: logical reasoning, quantitative reasoning, high school mathematics, vocabulary, English comprehension and verbal ability. A good grasp of the following topics of high school mathematics (up to the 12th standard) will be useful:
Algebra: Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansion, factorization, Quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, binomial theorem, permutations and combinations.
Co-ordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian co-ordinates, equations of a line, mid point, intersections etc., equations of a circle, distance formulae, pair of straight lines, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola, simple geometric transformations such as translation, rotation, scaling.
Differential Equations: Differential equations of first order and their solutions, linear differential equations with constant coefficients, homogenous linear differential equations.
Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, height and distance, inverse function.
Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, and measures of dispersions, skewness and kurtosis, random variable and distribution functions, mathematical expectations, Binomial, Poisson, normal distributions, curve fitting, and principle of least squares, correlation and regression.
Arithmetic: Ratios and proportions, problems on time-work, distance-speed, percentage, etc.
Basic Set Theory and Functions: Set, relations and mappings.
Mensuration: areas, triangles and quadrilaterals, area and circumference of circles, volumes and surface areas of simple solids such as cubes, spheres, cylinders and cones.

2.0 Eligibility Criteria
2.1 Basic Qualification: In order to secure admission to first year of MCA course, the candidate should fulfill the following eligibility criteria;
Candidate should be Indian National and should have passed with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate1 ( 40% in case of backward class category candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only) in any Bachelors degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities and having studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination.
Candidates who have appeared2 for the final year examination of any Bachelors degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities and having studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination can also appear for MAH-MCA-CET 2007 but shall have to fulfill the basic qualification as mentioned above i.e. Passed with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate ( 40% in case of backward class candidates from Maharashtra State only).
Note: The candidates who have passed Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) degree course with minimum % of marks as stated above are not required to fulfill the requirement of having studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination.
2.2 Eligibility Criteria for admission to Maharashtra State candidates (Type A-E) for the seats coming under CAP: (refer rule No. 3.1 for the definition of type of candidature for Maharashtra State Candidate)
1. Basic qualification as specified in rule no. 2.1. refer prospectus
2. Appeared and qualified in the Common Entrance Test MAH-MCA-CET 2007 conducted by the Competent Authority for the academic year 2007-2008.
2.3 Eligibility Criteria for admissions to OMS candidates for the 15% seats coming under CAP: (refer rule No. 3.2 for the definition of Outside Maharashtra State Candidate)
1. Basic qualification as specified in rule no. 2.1. refer prospectus
2. Appeared and qualified in AIMCET 2007 for seeking admission to MCA.
OR
Appeared and qualified in the Common Entrance Test MAH-MCA-CET 2007 conducted by the Competent Authority for the academic year 2007-2008.
2.4 Eligibility Criteria for admissions against seats for NRI/ Foreign National/ Foreign student/ PIO/ Children of Indian workers in the Gulf countries:
1. Basic educational qualification as specified in rule no. 2.1. refer prospectus
2. Appeared and qualified in AIMCET 2007
OR
Appeared and qualified in the Common Entrance Test MAH-MCA-CET 2007 conducted by the Competent Authority for the academic year 2007-2008.
OR
Any other equivalent examination conducted for the academic year 2007-08.
Note: For NRI /Foreign National/Foreign student/PIO/ Children of Indian workers in the Gulf countries candidates the condition of Indian Nationality specified in rule 2.1 does not apply.
2.5 Eligibility Criteria for Minority / Management seats:
1. Basic qualification as specified in rule no. 2.1. refer prospectus
2. Appeared for AIMCET 2007
OR
Appeared for the Common Entrance Test MAH-MCA-CET 2007 conducted by the Competent Authority for the academic year 2007-2008.
OR
CET conducted by agency (including Association of all colleges of a particular type in the State) approved by Pravesh Niyantran Samiti located at Bandra (E), Mumbai-51 for the academic year 2007-08.
In case of Minority seats, the candidate should belong to the minority community / group for which the institute has secured minority status for MCA course.
Note:
1. There shall be no reservation for Backward Class Category Candidates in Unaided Minority Institutes.
2. The candidates who will remain absent for MAH-MCA-CET 2007 shall be treated as not eligible for admission and result of such candidates will not be declared.
3. Candidate securing zero marks in MAH-MCA-CET 2007 / AIMCET / Association CET / any other equivalent CET will not be considered eligible for admission. Names of such candidate shall not appear in the merit list.
4. Eligible NRI candidates may be offered admission against the Management Seats in Unaided Institutes, limited to maximum 15% of total sanctioned intake.
5. Aggregate marks means the grand total of marks obtained by the candidate in subjects based on which the class declaration is made in the particular University from which the candidate is passing the qualifying examination.
6. Candidates appeared for final year examination fulfilling the remaining eligibility criteria will be offered provisional admission subject to the condition that they will pass the examination with the required percentage of marks on or before 30th September 2007.
7. Candidates aspiring to seek admission to the MCA course should follow the instructions given in Annexure-I for filling up On-line Application form, appearing for CET-2007, filling up the option form etc.
Age limit: There is no age limit for admission to first year of three year post graduate degree course in MCA course.

Stage I Sale of Information brochure
Information brochure along with Specimen Application form will be available at all the ARCs mentioned in Annexure-V for the aspiring candidates.
Fees for online submission of application form is Rs. 750/- for open category candidates from Maharashtra State, Outside Maharashtra State ( OMS ) and J&K Migrant candidates and Rs. 550/- for reserved category candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only (i.e. Maharashtra State candidates having relevant backward class caste certificate issued by Maharashtra State authorities). The J&K Migrant candidates who wish to apply under OMS quota also, should pay fees of Rs. 1500/-.
The candidate has to pay the prescribed fees of the application form in the form of DD (demand draft)/Pay Order of any Nationalised /Scheduled / Private Sector Commercial bank drawn in favour of Director of Technical Education, Mumbai payable at Mumbai at the time of receipt of the information brochure at ARC.
The ARC Officer shall issue the Receipt of the sale of Application form in prescribed format on the Specimen Application form.
No other mode of payment shall be permitted.
This fee is non refundable and non transferable under any circumstances.
Stage II Online Submission of Application Form at ARC
The candidate shall read the information brochure and fill up the Specimen Application Form as mentioned in Annexure -VIII of the Information Brochure for the purpose of practice only.
Aspiring candidates are required to fill the same information as on Specimen Application Form in the web based Online Application Form for Admission to MCA through the web site www.dte.org.in/mca at any of the ARCs as mentioned in Annexure -V. However, candidates can also fill up the Online Application Form for Admission to MCA through any computer connected to Internet, either from home or cyber café and take the printout of the Online submitted Application form, for confirmation at the ARC.
Applications received through online submission will be considered valid for further processing only after the confirmation of the submission of Application form at the ARC.
Late Submission & Confirmation of the Application Form: Those candidates who may fail to procure information brochure and/or fail to submit the On-Line Application Form and/or fail to Confirm the Application Form at the Designated ARCs will be permitted to procure/submit and confirm the Application form at the following address after payment of the additional late fee of Rs.1000/-. Such candidates have to submit and confirm the Application form in person, from 13th to 15th February 2007 at the office of the Directorate of Technical Education (Desk 2A), 3 Mahapalika Marg, Opp. Metro Cinema, Mumbai-400001.

There shall be no transfer of students at any stage from Govt./ Govt. Aided/ University Department/ University managed to Un-Aided institute in Maharashtra and no transfer of students from any institute located outside Maharashtra to any institute in the Maharashtra.
The candidates are informed that the medium of instruction, for the MCA course in all the Universities in the State is English.
At the time of seeking admissions, a candidate will be provisionally admitted to MCA course at a college / an institute subject to the production of the Provisional Eligibility Certificate from the University to which the college / institute is affiliated or by which the College / Institute is recognized, and its subsequent confirmation by the University. Each of the candidate is advised to ensure before applying for admission to the CET and the MCA course in a particular University that he / she is eligible for admission to the course as per the relevant Eligibility Rules of the University. Generally candidates passing qualifying degree examination by part time / correspondence course, or not passed in one sitting are not considered eligible by several Universities.
Appearing for the MAH-MCA-CET 2007 Examination
Candidates will appear for MAH-MCA -CET 2007 written examination at the designated venue as mentioned in the Call letter on 11th March 2007 at 14.00 hrs.
Candidates are required to bring both copies of the Hall Ticket (Candidate Copy / Invigilator Copy) at the Examination center.
The invigilator shall sign on both the copies of Hall Tickets and keep Invigilators copy with him & return the candidate copy to the candidate, which will be required to be produced at the institute where he/she will get admission.
