Exam Details:
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee comprising Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.

The overall coordination and responsibility lies with Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore designated as the Organizing Institute for GATE 2008.

Candidates will be required to appear in a single paper of three hours duration. The examination will be held from 0930 hours to 1230 hours on Sunday, February 10, 2008. The list of papers for GATE 2008 is given under structure of GATE (Click here). The question papers will be in english only.

Before applying for GATE 2008, candidates must assure themselves that they have chosen the right paper, which qualifies them to become eligible to seek admission to the specific programme they are interested in. The criteria for postgraduate admission with Scholarship/ Assistantship are different in various Institutes. GATE Offices will not provide any information in this regard. For more details, the candidates are required to contact the Institutes/Universities to which they are interested in seeking admission.

The choice of the paper is the responsibility of the candidate.

Question Paper Pattern: The question paper will consist of only objective type questions. Candidates have to mark the correct choice by darkening the appropriate bubble against each question on an Objective Response Sheet (ORS). There will be negative marking for wrong answers. The deduction for each wrong answer will be 25% of the allotted marks.

Eligibility:
The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE 2008:

1. Bachelor degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

2. Master degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

3. Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.

4. Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

How To Apply:
There are two different ways by which candidates can apply for GATE 2008 examination. They are

Online Application Process

1. Make Payment: In order to fill in the online application, payment has to made apriori. The payments are made through Demand Draft only.

Application fee: Rs. 900/- for General category and Rs. 400/- for SC/ST category.

The application fee is not refundable.

Demand drafts (Rs. 900 for General category and Rs. 400 for SC/ST category) should be made in favour of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on any nationalized bank payable at Bangalore. The original Demand Draft should be sent along with the generated application form (duly filled and signed), to Chairman GATE, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore-560012. Other enclosures are same as mentioned earlier.

2. Fill in the Online application form: You will have to first register to access the online application form. For registering, you will have to provide a login Id, password, first name, last name and email Id. It is important that you provide a valid email Id because in case you forget the password, a new password on request, will be sent to the provided email Id.

Open an ‘new application’ form and fill in the appropriate data. You will have to fill in the payment details also. Therefore, it is essential that before you fill in the online application form make sure that you have the Demand Draft as mentioned above. You must enter the Demand Draft number, the 9-digit Bank Id or the MICR No. (that is next to the Demand Draft number on the DD) and the Bank name for the payment details.

3. Print the online application form: After submitting the online application, you will be able to generate a PDF document of the online application with your specific details/data. For this you must logon to the GATE website from a computer that has Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 and above. From the onscreen view of the PDF document that your browser projects, you must Print the generated PDF online application form.

4. Paste Photo and Sign: On the Printed application form mentioned in step-3, Paste a recent good quality non-attested photo of yourself in the space provided. Sign in the space provided for specimen signature and the declaration at the bottom of the application form. The signature should be identical in both the places and it should be Your signature only. Signatures in Capital letters only or initials are not acceptable.

5. Obtain SC/ST/Disability Certificate: SC/ST certificate and/or Disability certificate should be obtained from appropriate authorities IF APPLICABLE. For a list of authorities who can issue SC/ST certificates, see the brochure (Click here)

6. Post: Place the Demand Draft, printed online application form and if applicable, the SC/ST and/or Disability certificates in an envelope and send it to The Chairman, Gate, Indian Institute Of Science, Bangalore - 560012 By Speed/ Registered Post only.

Offline Application Process

1. Obtain Brochure and application form: Application fee: Rs. 1000/- for General category and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST category.

The application fee is not refundable.

Information Brochures and Application Forms are obtainable on payment of cash from the designated Bank Branches corresponding to each zone. The bank pay-in-slip in original must be attached to the candidate’s application during submission. Candidates can also obtain Information Brochures and Application Forms by Post from/or personally at the GATE offices. For this purpose a Demand Draft is to be sent for the amount as above to the Chairman, GATE of the corresponding zonal GATE office, along with a request letter and two self-addressed slips.

The application packet contains the Information Brochure, Basic Data Sheet (BDS) cum Application form, Acknowledgement Card and the Envelope for enclosing the documents. CHECK that the application number is identical in all the above mentioned documents in the application packet. If there is any discrepancy, report to the Chairman, GATE of the corresponding zonal GATE office.

2. Fill in the BDS cum application form: Read the Information brochure. Fill in the BDS cum application form by referring to the chapter-5 of the Information brochure.

3. OBTAIN SC/ST/Disability CERTIFICATE: SC/ST certificate and/or Disability certificate should be obtained from appropriate authorities IF APPLICABLE. A list of authorities who can issue SC/ST certificates is given in chapter-5 of the brochure

4. POST: Fill in the Acknowledgement Card and the Envelope. Place the BDS cum Application Form, bank pay-in-slip/receipt of payment, Acknowledgement card and if applicable, the SC/ST and /or Disability certificates in the provided Envelope and send it to the respective zonal GATE office depending on the first choice of the examination city where the candidate wishes to appear. The envelope with enclosures may be handed over personally to the respective zonal GATE office or be sent by SPEED/ REGISTERED POST only.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi will conduct 11th All India Competitive Examination for filling up 15% of the total number of seats in 41 Agricultural Universities in 10 subjects of Under Graduate degree Programmes including Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries Science, Forestry, Home Science, Sericulture, Agricultural Engineering, Dairy Technology, Food Science & Technology and Agriculture Marketing Banking & Co-operation, and 100% of the seats at National Dairy Research Institute, Kamal (Haryana) in Dairy Technology. There will be no direct nomination of any candidate for admission in any Under Graduate degree programme.

Date and time of the Examination: 7th May, 2006 (Sunday) from 10.00 A.M. to 12.30 P.M.

National Talent Scholarship: To promote agricultural education in the country, National Talent Scholarship @ Rs.1, 000/- per month shall, be awarded to all the finally admitted candidates who join any University? Which is not within the domicile state of the candidate.

Scheme of Examination: There will be only one question paper consisting of objective type questions in Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Agriculture for STREAM - A and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for STREAM - B. The candidates may choose any Stream according to their eligibility and choice of the subjects. The question paper will be bilingual i.e. ENGLISH and HINDI.

Reservation of Seats: There would be reservation of seats for admissions in all the subjects to the extent 15% for Scheduled Castes, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes, 3% for Physically Handicapped candidates, and 2% for candidates from Underprivileged states (UPS) as defined in the Information Bulletin.

Eligibility:
The candidate must be at least 17 years of age but not more than 23 years on or before 31st Dec 2006. No relaxation of age will be allowed to candidate of any category. He/ she should be an Indian National. He/ she must have passed and obtained not less than 50% (for General and UPS Categories) and 40% marks (for SC, ST, and PH categories) in 10+2 examination. Any candidate having compartment/ supplementary in any subject in the qualifying examination i.e. 10+2 is not eligible for admission. One who is appearing for 10+2 examination in the year 2006 can also apply subject to his/ her producing 10+2 passing certificate on the date of Counseling. Pass in English in 10+2 examination is essential for admission in some of the Universities.

Exam Details:
Arunachal Pradesh Entrance Examination is conducted by the North-East Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST). The academic programmes offered in the institute are in the Engineering / Technology and Applied Science streams which offer admission in Base, Diploma and Degree Modules in Technology are: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Agricultural Engineering. Computer Science Department offers admission to Diploma and Degree Modules only. Department of Applied Science offers admission to Base Module of two years and Degree Module of four years in Forestry.

(b) The application forms will also be available from the Directorates of Higher/Technical Education of respective North Eastern States from 17th Jan 2006 to 07th March 2006 on payment of Rs. 50/- (Rupees fifty) through Bank Draft in favour of Director, NERIST payable at SBI, Nirjuli, Branch Code No. 9535© Fee for each application form is to be paid separately,

(c) The application form/ admit card/ acknowledgement card and Information Brochure can also be downloaded from NERIST web site www.nerist.ac.in. A non-refundable fee of Rs. 600/- (Rs. 150/- for SC/ST/Handicapped) is to be paid along with the application form. However, a non-refundable fee of Rs.650/-(Rs.200/-for SC/ST/Handicapped) shall be payable along with application form down loaded from NERIST web site.

Application forms received without requisite examination fee and stamped envelope will be summarily rejected without assigning any further clarification.

Important Dates:
(1) Candidates appeared/appearing in the qualifying examination for NEE-I/NEE-II/NEE-III may also apply.

(2) Application forms duly filled in must reach NERIST on or before March 17, 2006. Applications received late or incomplete will not be entertained.

Reservation and Allocation of Seats: 80% of total seats are allotted at the rate of 10% each to the eight NE States and will be filled as per the reservation policy of respective State Governments. 10%seats shall be filled on all India basis as per reservation policy of Central Govt. Remaining (7%) seats will be filled on merit basis from permanent residents (PRC holders) of eight north eastern states including 3% reservation for physically handicapped with 40-75% locomotor disability.

All India Common Entrance Examination (All India Pre-Veterinarytest) For Admission To Bvsc & Ah Course

Exam Details: Veterinary Council of India invites applications for entrance examination for filling up 15% of total number of seats to be filled on Merit in each Veterinary College from Indian Nationals for admission to 1st year of BVSc & AH course for academic session 2006-07. The duration of BVSc & AH degree course is spread over five complete academic years including a compulsory rotating internship of six months.

Eligibility:
(I) A candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination (after a period of 12 years of study) the last two years of study with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council for Education Research and Training or equivalent qualification as prescribed in the Veterinary Council of India - Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education-Degree Course (BVSc & AH) Regulations, 1993. OR Candidates who have passed the BSc examination from a recognised University with not less than two of the following subjects - Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany/ Zoology), and has passed the earlier qualifying examination with the following subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

(II) To be eligible for appearing in entrance examination, the candidates must have passed the qualifying Examination obtaining not less than 50% of the aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. In respect of candidates belonging to the SC/ST or other special category of students as specified by the Government from time to time, marks required at the qualifying examination shall be 10% less than that prescribed for general category.

(III) A candidate who is taking up the qualifying examination prior to the Entrance Examination, or whose result is awaited, may also apply and take the examination but he/ she shall not be eligible for admission to the BVSc & AH Programme, if he/ she does not pass the qualifying examination with the required percentage of marks as prescribed at (ii) above, on or before 30th June, 2006 and submit the documentary proof during counseling, if selected.

(IV) The candidate has attained or will attain age of seventeen (17) years on 31st Dec, 2006.

How To Apply:
1) The Information Bulletin and Application Form can be obtained by post on payment of Rs 750/- for General Category and Rs.400/- for SC/ST category (including examination fee, handling and other charges) through a Demand Draft drawn in favour of Veterinary Council of India payable at New Delhi on any Scheduled Bank from the office of Controller of Examination, Veterinary Council of India, A Wing, 2nd Floor, August Kranti Bhawan, Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi-110066. While requesting Information Bulletin and Application Form, the candidates should send: -

a) Demand Draft (Cash/ Money order/Indian Postal Order/Cheque or any other form of payment will NOT be accepted).
b) Two plain paper slips with complete address (in CAPITAL LETTERS) with PIN-code.

3) The request along with Demand Draft should reach office of Council on or before 17th February, 2006.

4) Last Date of Submission of Application: Form duly filled and signed by the candidate should reach the office of the Council latest by 28th February, 2006.

5) For the Applications posted from the remote areas viz. Mizoram, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Lahaul and Spiti districts and Pangi sub-division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman &Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep, the last date of receipt shall be 15th March, 2006.

Sale counter of bank/ counters other than the office of Veterinary Council of India will not send the information bulletin by post. Hence no request should be made to the bank/other counters for sending the Information Bulletin and Application Form by post. Vijaya Bank or its specified branches and designated sale counters (State Veterinary Councils and University) will not be responsible for any consequences that may arise due to non-availability of forms from Bank/aforesaid designated centres. In case, copies of Application Forms are sold out before the last date at any of branches and the same are not available with Vijaya Bank/Designated centres of Council, the candidate should get the same from the office of the Veterinary Council of India, A Wing, 2nd Floor, August Kranti Bhawan, Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi-66 by sending Demand Drafts as stated above.
