It has been going on for some time meritorious students being denied admission on one pretext or the other by private professional colleges, which eye the less meritorious ones so they can charge a hefty capitation fee. The Supreme Court, after hearing several petitions alleging massive bungling in admissions to private college, hit the bulls eye during one such petition, and put a poser - why should such institutions not be asked to pay damages and face derecognition for denying admissions to meritorious students? A petition was filed last year by a candidate Vijay Jamini, who through counsel Suresh C

Every year, over a million students have a go at professional courses and the preparations start at school level itself. Admissions to the 4,600 seats at the five IITs, 9,600 seats in NITs, 2,400 in self-financed deemed universities in respect of engineering colleges and around 1,600 seats in medical and dental colleges of India are based on the rank a student gets in the entrance exams, viz., IIT-JEE, AIEEE and AIPMT.
Invariably, most parents and students need information on these institutions, admission procedures, trends and changes in the qualifying exams, how to prepare for these examsand chances of cracking the exams.
Here is a word of assurance for the candidates who have cleared the AIEEE and are now seeking admission into private engineering colleges of the State.
The fee structure meant for the JEE would also apply to AIEEE candidates. There will be no separate fee structure for the candidates seeking admission through the AIEEE route, Special Secretary, Industries Department, Vijay Arora said.
The fees for different professional programmes, recommended by Fee Structure Committee and notified by the State Government on July 12, covers them too, he said.
