Invites Application From Unmarried Male Candidates for Enrolment as Sailors for Direct Entry Diploma Holders (3 Yrs) for 2/2007 Batch Course commencing 06 August 2007
The Indian Navy is a high technology service, which operates and maintain highly sophisticated ships, submarines and aircraft. The propulsion machinery, weapons, sensors and equipment on board these weapon platforms are operated and maintained by sailors, who are given training at various stages during their service. The initial basic training is given at INS Chilka, Distt Khurda, Orissa. This is followed by further-training at various Naval Establishments all over the country. Selected sailors are also sent abroad for training in specific disciplines. Prior to release from the service, sailors are also given pre-release courses to enable them to settle down in civil life. Sailors in the Navy are liable to serve anywhere in India, on board ships and Submarines or abroad as required by the service.
Eligibility Conditions
Marital Status: Only Unmarried male Indian citizens and subjects of Nepal are eligible.
Qualification: Three Years Diploma with minimum 50% marks in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Telecommunication / Aeronautical / Ship Building / Instrumentation / Metallurgical Engineering from a Govt. recognized polytechnic / Institute.
Age: Candidates should have been born between: 01 Aug 1985 and 31 Jul 1989 (Both dates inclusive)
Pay and Perquisites Pay & Allowances:
During the initial training period the approximate emoluments Rs.6300/- p.m. On completion of initial training the emoluments at present rate depending on rank and number of years of service will be Rs.7400/- to Rs.16,900/- pm.
Promotion: Promotion prospects exist upto the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer-1 (equivalent to Subedar Major of Army). Opportunities for promotion to Commissioned Officer also exist for those who perform well and qualify the prescribed examinations.
Perquisites:
During the entire period of training and thereafter, sailors are given books, reading material, uniform, food and accommodation etc. free of cost. On completion of training sailors are entitled for leave and free railway warrant.
Sailors are entitled to medical treatment and Leave Travel Concession for self and dependents. Group Housing benefits, and other privileges at Government expense, insurance cover of Rs.7,50,000/- is given by Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) at a nominal premium of Rs.750/- per month. Sailors also have the privilege to avail up to 60 days Annual Leave and 30 days Casual Leave every year. Post retirement benefits include pension, gratuity and Leave encashment. Children education and house rent allowance are also admissible.
Written, Physical & Medical Exam
Written Test:
The question paper will be bilingual (Hindi & English) and of objective type. The question paper will have questions of English, General Knowledge, Science and Mathematics. The standard of question paper will be that of Matric. The question paper will have additional sections of Electronics. Electrical and Mechanical. The candidate will be required to attempt only one of the sections, which will be as per the specialization in which he has completed the three years Diploma. However, final allocation of branch will be done at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) which will be indicated in call up letters dispatched to the candidates. Duration of question paper will be of 90 minutes, Candidates are to bring their own clipboard & pens.
Physical Fitness Test (PET): Qualifying in Physical Fitness Test is mandatory. This will consist of 1.6 km run to be completed in 7 minutes. 25 Squal ups (Uthak Baithak) and 10 Push ups.
Medical Standards: Weight co-related with height and proportionate chest with minimum expansion of 5 cms. Good medical and physical health, free from any disease/disability. No cardio-vascular disease, surgical deformities like flat feet or knock knees, surgery for eye sight, varicose veins or infection of ears. No history of fits or psychiatric ailment. Minimum height 157 cms. Colour perception: CP II: Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned for wax and tartar removed from teeth before appearing for the written test.
Enrolment Medical: All Short listed candidates, who qualify the interview at INS Chilka, will have to undergo an Enrolment Medical Examination at INS Chilka prior to enrolment. Candidates found unfit during this medical examination will not be enrolled for training. No appeal is permitted after the Enrolment Medical Examination at INS Chilka.
Training: The training for the course will commence on 06 Aug 2007, with 9 weeks Basic Training at INS Chilka followed by 4 weeks of sea training. Thereafter, approx, 2 years training at INS Shivaji / Valsura.
Discharge as Unsuitable: Sailors are liable to be discharged as unsuitable due to unsatisfactory performance at any time during the training.
Initial Engagement: The initial engagement is subject to successful completion of training. The initial engagement is of 10 years.
Selection Procedure
The application format is given at the end of this advertisement. The selection procedure are as follows.
Application will be received only through Ordinary Post. Application received by speed post / registered post and couriers will not be accepted.
Call up letters to eligible short listed, candidates will be sent, giving date time and place for Written and Physical Fitness tests which are scheduled during Mar-Mary 2007. All original certificates and mark sheets are to be produced at the time of written examination.
Results of the Written Test will be announced on the same day. Those who qualify Written test will undergo PFT and Medical Examination, which may take 3-4 days.
Those who are declared Medically Temporary Unfit will be required to report to the specified Military Hospital within a maximum period of 21 days for review from the date of recruiting medical examination.
Those who are declared Medically Unfit can appeal for specialist opinion in a Military Hospital on payment of Rs.40/- by Military Receivable Order (MRO) in the Government Treasury within 21 days.
Medical fitness certificate other than that of the specialist opinion in the specified Military Hospital will not be considered.
The candidates who qualify in all respect will be short listed depending upon the vacancies. The centre wise select list of candidates selected for interview (depending upon the numbers to be inducted) will be displayed at the respective Recruitment Centres on 27 Jun 2007. However, final enrolment will be subject to medical fitness at INS Chilka.
Short listed candidates will be called for interview at INS Chilka, in the last week of Jul 2007. Candidates finally selected will be enrolled after qualifying the medical examination at INS Chilka. Second class rail/bus fare will be reimbursed on production of the ticket/receipt on reporting at INS Chilka. Candidates not selected in the interview cannot claim admission in the next batch. These candidates will have to undergo the selection procedure afresh provided they meet the eligibility criteria for the fresh batch. No separate intimation will be sent to candidates whose names do not appear in the select list.
No enquiry will be entertained regarding recruitment / enrolment after six months from the last date of receipt of application.
Offer of enrolment will be forwarded only to medically qualified candidates in the select list. Unsuccessful candidates will not be intimated separately.
How to Apply
Application Form: The application form in this advertisement may be used or the format may be typed on plain paper. Application sent through agent will not be accepted. Candidates applying are to clearly indicate in their application the choice of specialization (Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical).
Documents: The following documents are to be punched and tied firmly with a strong thread to the application in the sequence below:
(a) Application filled in capital letters with one recent coloured PP size photograph pasted at right top corner. (b) Two spare recent coloured PP size photograph with the candidates name and signature on the reverse (in the absence of recent photograph candidate will not be allowed to appear in the examination) Computer generated photograph will not be accepted. (c) Attested copy of matric / equivalent certificate for verification of date of birth. (d) Attested copy of mark sheet of Diploma (e) Attested copy of other certificate viz. NCC / Sports etc. (f) Two self addressed envelope of size 22 10 cms with Rs.10/- stamp affixed on one envelop to be submitted alongwith the application.
Envelope: The type of entry, choice of examination Centre is to be clearly written on top of the envelope containing the application.

Warning: Candidates, who send more than one application for the same entry or apply for more than one examination centre will be disqualified.
Examination Centres: Aizwal, Ambala, Kolkata, Chennai, Chilka, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Gangtok, Ranchi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Gwailor, Jalandhar, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kochi, Lakshdweep, Lonavla, Mumbai, New Delhi, Port Blair, Shilong, Shimla, Srinagar, Vasco-da-Gama, Visakhapatnam, Porbandar, Almora, Aarkonam, Tirunelveli, Karwar. Note: Candidates are to choose only one centre for recruitment in accordance with the postal address given in the application, e.g. a candidate whose postal address is in Maharashtra can only choose Mumbai or Lonavla. Similarly a candidate whose postal address is in Haryana, will have to choose Ambala. However, for administrative reasons Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) may allot any suitable centre.
