Two New Courses Launched Exams in India

Former vice-chancellor of Nalanda open university, Dr B N Agrawal, launched two new professional courses, offered by Madurai kamraj university (MKU), which would be taught through arcade business college here on 4 oct. The courses, post-graduate diploma in mass communication and journalism, and ma in mass communication and journalism, are of one-year and two-year duration, respectively. Introducing the courses, Dr Agrawal said mkus professional courses, taught under its distance education programme, will be very helpful to the students of this state. Speaking at the function, former director of Patna university distance education, R R Sahay, said the irregular academic sessions of the universities of Bihar had compelled students to join such professional courses. Underlining the importance of these courses, former pro vice-chancellor of Magadh University, Major Balbir Singh Bhasin, said journalism must include moral values in its fold. Director of the college, Ashish kumar, said the college was already teaching a three-year degree course in mass communication and the newly launched courses (which were of postgraduate level) would further widen the scope for employment to students. He said regular classes would be held for all the courses and examinations for them would be held in Patna. The last date for admission to the new courses was October 31, he added.

Computer-Aided Learning Programme Launched For 82,400 Rural Children In 30 Districts Arul Mozhi, D. Deepa and K. Maunika are first generation learners from hamlets with about 1,000 families in interior Tamil Nadu but they are among the thousands of primary and elementary school children who use computers as a learning tool. Under a computer aided learning programme launched in September, 82,400 rural children in 412 centres in 30 districts are using software packages produced jointly by the State and the Bangalore-based Azim Premji Foundation. Children answer questions in subjects such as Tamil, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science on computer.

School for passenger pilots launched

The first college in Shanghai offering diplomas for passenger plane pilots is ready for take-off. The facility was set up on Monday and applicants will be selected after university entrance exams in July. The college is a joint operation by the Shanghai University of Engineering Science and Shanghai Airlines Co Ltd. IIT-K launches helpline for freshers

In a bid to save new entrants from ragging, the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has launched a students helpline. Assistant registrar Satyamurthi told agencies that the initiative would arrest the ragging of new comers by their seniors to a large extent. The helpline team constitutes 11 senior professors of the institute, he said. Their mobile helpline numbers would be made available to all the new students at the time of admission, he said. The students can lodge a ragging complaint over the mobile phone and all the team members will immediately rush to the spot, he said.
