Velammal School Group to conduct State-level science talent examination on September 28
Chennai: The preliminary round of a State-level science talent search examination organized by the Velammal School Group will be held in the last week of this month, M.V.M. Velmohan, correspondent of the school, said on Friday.
Mr. Velmohan told reporters that the first round of the examination would be held on September 28.
The test based on the State board curriculum and being conducted for the third year now, would help students to assess their strengths and weaknesses.
In the first year, over 56,000 students from across the State took the examination, and last year the number rose to 65,000.
He said that he expected more than 1 lakh students to write the examination this year.
He said students from Class I to XII could write the examination and that the preliminary round would be conducted on the premises of the participating schools.
The final examination would be held on November 26 in 11 towns Chennai, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Pondicherry, Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Coimbatore and Salem.
The first prize fetches Rs.10, 000, while the second prize is Rs.8,000, and the third prize winner would get Rs.5,000.
Besides, the school group has also planned to distribute more than 1,600 consolation prizes to students who take the test.

Dates for talent Exam Announced
New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) announced dates for its National Talent Search Examination for 2007. It offers 1,000 scholarships for students of Class VIII and X.
According to an official release issued by the NCERT, as per the new scheme from this year, students will be offered scholarship from Class VIII and Class X. Seats are also reserved for students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. All states and union territories will make selections for Stage-I exams and the qualifying students will be eligible for the Stage-II examination,

The district administration has made all arrangements for the conduct of Civil Services Preliminary examination in the twin cities on Sunday.
District Collector R.V.Chandra Vadan addressing media persons at the Collectorate here on Saturday said the preliminary examination would be held in 40 centres in the city. The zonal/ supervisory officers and candidates should reach the centres well ahead of the scheduled time.
