XI M. Sc Course in Wildlife Science
The Wildlife Institute of India is a premier national Institute for training and research in the field of wildlife conservation and management. Sc course in Wildlife Science is a flagship course of the Institute and is widely acclaimed both nationally and internationally. The course aims to impart theoretical knowledge, analytical skills and field techniques in wildlife science. Students of high caliber and motivation are selected through a National Entrance Test (NET) in this residential course.
Applications are invited for admission to this two-year course in M. Sc. Wildlife Science (affiliated to Saurashtra University, Rajkot, Gujarat) commencing July 2007, at this Institute. Ten meritorious students (8 Indian Nationals and 2 Foreign Nationals) will be admitted to this course. The number of seats may be increased as per the extant Govt. of India reservation policy as applicable to the Institute. Eligibility:
Bachelor of Science degree with Biological science as a major subject. Bachelor degree holder in Veterinary, Forestry, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences are also eligible.
Minimum of 15 years of formal education (either 10+2+3 or 11+2+2) Minimum of 55% aggregate marks in B. Sc.
Candidates appearing for final year/semester B. Sc exam are also eligible to apply, provided they have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate. Such candidates must produce mark sheet of their graduation at the time of their personality and aptitude test, failing which, their candidature will be treated as cancelled. Foreign nationals who do not have English as their native language should provide evidence of proficiency in English (e.g. TOEFL Score) for admission to this course. Candidates with Bachelor Degree from Universities outside India should obtain certificates of equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities.
Age Limit: 35 years for in-service candidates and 30 years for others, as on 1st July, 2007.
Selection:
Eligible candidates will be required to appear for a written NET in any one of the centers (Bangalore, Dehradun, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Guwahati). The NET will be for 2 hours. The test will have objective type multiple-choice questions for 60% with sections on general knowledge, general science and optional subject (life science/forestry/veterinary science/agricultural science). The remaining 40% will have essays. Short listed meritorious candidates will be called to take a personality and aptitude test at Dehradun. Selection will be made based on the final merit list prepared. SC/ST candidates called for the written and aptitude test will be paid travelling allowances as per rules.
How to Apply:
Application on plain paper should be typed in the following format or downloaded from Institute website www.wii.gov.in Attested legible photocopies of all the certificates and mark sheets providing proof of eligibility, age of the candidate and certificate if belonging to SC/ST/OBC must be sent along with the application by Registered/Speed Post. Candidates who have GPA should provide a certificate from their University on its equivalence in percentage. Candidates must highlight aggregate percentage and date of birth in the attested photocopies. Three recent passport size photographs with signature of the candidate besides the one posted on the application form and a Bank Draft for Rs.300/- in favor of Director, Wildlife, Institute of India payable at Dehradun should accompany the application.
The candidates can also apply online through the institutes website. However, the testimonials required, four recent self signed passport size photographs and the Bank Draft should be sent by Registered/Speed Post, indicating the Application Number & Date of Submission generated while submitting the online application on the envelope, the covering letter and the enclosures.
Applications incomplete in any aspect will be rejected without assigning any reasons thereof. SC/ST candidates are exempted from application fee. In-service candidates should route their applications through proper channel. The envelope containing the application or annexure as the case should be marked on top Application for XI-M. Sc. The last date for receiving application is 5th February, 2007. The NET is likely to be hold on Sunday, 8th April 2007.
